Diva the amount of people that drink at these games or beforehand is staggering and you're constantly having to stand to allow people to walk past your seats with booze.

Just because you and others like a drink and I don't doesn't make it any less true that alcohol causes these problems.

It caused them when the Terry Alderman incident occurred at the WACA years ago ( I was there as a kid and that really left a lasting impact upon me it was very, very, disturbing at the time) and almost every major ugly crowd incident in this country can be attributed to the consumption of alcohol.

Again it's a vocal minority that spoils it for everyone and while in all probability you and others don't let it influence your behaviour to that extent, it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen especially when you're dealing with a bunch of morons in the first place.

Id like to hear from someone who was at the game. I was told by someone at the game that the booing came after a blatant push in the back by goodes, unrewarded by the umpires.

I disagree with most of you except Darkshines, who said, you have no idea why the bloke next to you is booing.... so you cannot comment on whether he/she is racist or not. He might be a racist, but you might not.
So, those who say the booing was racist... you are WRONG because you dont know!

you will have to lay off the slops diva!!
where is darkshines post on this thread?
    apologies. Legless it was!

Also Diva its been scientifically proven time and time again that you don't have to be completely drunk to have your inhibitions lowered and thinking altered. and you would well and truly be aware of that.
You won't get any argument from me as I've said before that we have some truly moronic supporters, some are that dumb they shouldn't be allowed through the gate but again every club has them unfortunately.
I do get seriously piissed off however when the entire supporter base is basically accused of being racist and of disgraceful behaviour and that anyone who booed Goodes was being racist, that's just complete and utter bullshit and inherently wrong.

not everyone that has a drink is drunk andrew... but you might not realise that. its a sweeping generalisation you make and you should know better.

goodes is a tosser...was a great footballer who is sidetracked by his self importance..

If he wants to challenge the crowd at the footy with a war dance, he has to expect a response.
If he wants to vilify a young person in the crowd, he has to expect a response.

If he was not a tosser, he would not challenge spectators and he would offer the hand of reconciliation, rather than yell and point that a child be removed for repeating an ill spoken word/phrase.

He just wants attention, cos he aint the footballer he used to be...if he retires now it will allow him to be a pariah for the rest of his life.

not even close to racist booing by what the couple that i know went, told me.....they booed for that goal he got, then kept it going for the rest of the day....if i was here i would've just boo'd cos he's a diving, whinging, argumentative tosser.

Never liked him but always respected him until how he dealt with the young person in the crowd incidence...

I didn't say drunk I said influenced by alcohol or have their inhibitions lowered as a result of having had a drink or two there's a big difference between the two and don't worry there are also quite a few there who are half cut.
Yes it is annoying having to constantly stand to avoid drinking richard craniums during the game itself not just during breaks especially when its spilt on you and your friends accidentally by said richard craniums.

FAARRK. you would be mortified if you had a seat next to me at the footy.
I went to the blues(Blues Supporter I am) game last week with a mate and we were in rounds.

Diva stop being mischievous I clearly differentiated between being drunk and having had a drink or two which as stated has been proven by countless scientific studies does negatively influence behaviour, reaction times, lower inhibitions etc, etc.

Also Diva its been scientifically proven time and time again that you don't have to be completely drunk to have your inhibitions lowered and thinking altered. and you would well and truly be aware of that.

Andrew I have been attending AFL game since the Eagles started and my observation would be that only a very small percentage of the crowd would partake in alcohol before or during a game

I don't know what games you've been going to then Aquanita, clearly you've never seen the lengthy queues at all the bars.

as a percentage of the number of people in the ground Andrew, what would that be?

So, those who say the booing was racist... you are WRONG because you dont know!

I was at the game, I did not boo Adam Goodes, does that mean I like him as a player - nope!

I don't boo anyone (that I can recall), so maybe it's just me.

One guy in front of me was either ejected or left at half time (however I didn't hear anything racist from him). I would have liked the crazy lady (yes she was aboriginal) to be ejected, as I didn't need a history lesson on aboriginal culture, whilst I was trying to watch a game of football. No s*#t, she started yelling out about the stolen generation et al, at a footy game!

Also the booing, probably came from about 10% (maybe up to 20%) of the crowd, people that think the entire crowd was booing, it's just the way the audio sounds, and it only takes a minority of booing, for it to sound like everyone there was doing it.

You don't need a large percentage of people as I have repeatedly stated it's an irresponsible and vocal minority that always ruin things for everyone else.
In certain sections of the crowd it's going to be higher than others but one in every 10 maybe even higher in other sections so in a crowd of 38000 lets say 3800 people not an unreasonable number I would say that are drinking or have had a drink, that's more than enough to cause problems and inconvenience others.

Umpires get booed every match dont see them sooking up like a 2 year old. You get paid the big bucks, Aussie of the year, what else does he want, red farking carpet. Grow a set and harden up like a real Australian, sooner he quits the better, this is just a handy excuse to retire under duress and make everyone feel like he has been hard done by.

Let's say there is 100 people at 10 bars Andrew that represents 1000 people in a crowd of 30000 plus. The majority of the crowd never leave their seats.

Goodes is set to announce his retirement from the game, but first he is having a week off to get his head straight.

Now none of this has anything to do with his advancing age and his acceptance that he is past it and was looking at getting the don't come Monday from Management.

Are we not a country anymore where freedom of expression is allowed. There probably is rednecks that boo Goodes due to racism, some that believe he is a sniper or dirty footballer or stages for free kicks or some that may boo that they believe he did not deserve to be Australian of the year.

Point is this in this country you are supposed to be allowed to express your opinions and views. Yes racism is not acceptable in any walk of life. But to say the whole booing is racially motivated is ridiculous. Every one in that crowd will boo for a different reason and only they know why. Will Cyril Rioli be booed when the Hawks play the Eagles in 2 weeks time. (I'm guessing not) It is just political correctness gone mad.
Our freedom of speech is being slowly eroded away, in the end we will not be able to have our own views and opinions will just get told what we can and can not say or do.

And why we are it the media is no better in this whole situation the way they report and shove it down people's throats gives it more traction and to sell papers and headlines is pathetic, I'm sure the country has bigger problems and issues to solve than some footballer being booed.

Maybe in your section Aquanita where I sit there are a number of people who get up and down on multiple occasions during the game itself.

2 before the game. 1 at quarter time. 2 at half time. 1 at 3/4 time

why go to the footy if you cant get a bit of singing juice, yell shout and...BOO....to get rid of the weeks pressure???

You can't get tanked at Subi anyway, takes too long to get a beer/toilet etc.

Worst ground for spectators I have ever been too.

Can't wait for the new stadium to be operational; then I'll be full as a boot by half time! up down up down up down up down...

Cant stand the guy, in his aussie of the year award he says he doesnt cellebrate australia day and referres to it as invasion day, what a slap in the face to every aussie, if he feels that way why accept the award. Then points out a 13 year old girl and says she is the face of racism in australia, give me a break. As for the war dance it got exactly the attention he was looking for, if he was serious about it being a war dance he should have directed it at the carlton players not the fans where he knew he would get a reaction. All this equates to 1 thing, grade A tosser.

Goodes was a very good player 2 Brownlow's proves that but he should have retired last year as now all he is as a player a shadow of what he was if getting booed is so bad how come it is only this year that he is copping it as he has been playing for 17 years and if he was concentrating on the game he would not have even heard it, every club has some feral supporters does Ballantyne have a sook when other team fans boo him and yell allsorts of crap what about Brent Harvey when North Melbourne come over here to play the Dockers or Eagles he cops heaps does that give him a excuse to sook , this game used to be a man's game but the way it is being turned into a girl's game is a shame .

I just find it ironical that if a white player is yelled at abused, booed and much more its just normal crowd behaviour but when a aboriginal player cops similar treatment it's called racism.
