PR are broken, bent, twisted out of touch and out of balls...Is there some sort of overseer of........ "clubs that need to have administrators put in??" Cos to use that as an excuse is .....................I'm speechless

Why didn't they just say they thought there was more commercial value having it on that day????!?!?!?!!? Oh and of course they wont have to pay overtime on the wages......When will this nightmare finish??

The nightmare on Grandstand Rd will continue as long as King Ted and his merry idiots continue to run the game from his Castle.

what an absolute cop out regarding Pinjarra. However, it will probably work in Perth Racings and Pinjarras favour.

Hmmm the first thing I thought was that this can only benefit Perth RAcing, as people will use NYD after the Eve celebrations to freshen up and then attack again on the Saturday. And of course the wages are significant.

when you stop and think about it, its a very good idea.
if "they" promote it correctly it could be a huge day. $5 entry could be a start.

I wasn't for one moment suggesting it wasn't a good idea, but why cant they just come out and say that?????

EDIT...Why not $20 entry with a $3 mystery combo, free race book and a beer/glass of wine voucher??

I would get some pubs and nightspots involved to deliver an "all day" type event for the youngsters. Pay your $40 for a ticket to the races which includes entry and a bus ride to said pub/nightspot. However this will only work if the partner is willing to put on a decent DJ to encourage the punters to go and kick on. But a few days after new years eve the kitty for the kids may be a little low.

I would like someone to tell me of the ramifications of building a brand around a day, let's say the first Tuesday in November, then around 6 months out from that day, change it to say the second Wednesday because that fits in better with the wages structure of the host club.

How would that be received ?

So along those same lines, Perth Racing have built a brand around the 1st of January, being the date that those who come to the races one day a year can easily remember. But for the sake of convenience ( read payroll savings) that date then being changed to a different date a few years ago for one season, then changing it back to the 1st, now changing to thew 2nd for the next edition.

    How confusing is that ?

Then just one final question, or a lack of questioning. Did the West Australian even question why ? Or did they simply follow yet another directive off the fax machine from Perth Racing, and print just more bullshit in the hope that readers were as stupid as the bloke who wrote the 'story' ?

Racing in WA deserves better than both parties involved.

Is there really a (strong) connection to NYD ?
Maybe back in the day of $300 a head Tentland parties etc.............but I think the Saturday this year is much more logical and will draw a much greater crowd.
Bit silly to have NYE, then PC on the Friday (with everyone hungover) and then the whole of the weekend empty.
    Party Thurs
    Recover Fri
    Party Sat
    Recover Sun
    Good plan.

You've got Palace and we've got Watford - both 11:00pm Saturday night.
(That time can't be right surely.................App must be stuck on E/s time for the mo)

Yes 8 hours dif at that time of the year.

I am not a Chelsea fan Tivers. My team aren't good enough to be in the Premier League at the moment. My second team is Leicester and hasn't that been fun in recent times. Bournemouth has always been my lower div club and very pleased to see them reach the top division. Manager has been brilliant. I pray they can survive the first season and hold on after that. It will be interesting to watch EPL games on a ground with far smaller capacity than Perth Glory's home.

Times have changed damo. Nyd at Perth cup is no longer the event it was. Can't see why the Saturday won't work better. When are the other states racing?

Read all the facts, still can't understand the logic of changing what most non race goers refer to as New Years Day at Ascot races.

Long Weekends no longer matter. Boxing Day now means nothing. New Year's Day is the last one standing.... Except on a Friday. ;))

NYD on a Friday is just day one of a long weekend.
Day two of a four day weekend in more reality.

No way they will do that, they will bleed it for what they can get

In Victoria our meeting on NYD is as per usual at Flemington, with the Standish Handicap and the Bagott.

On Saturday the 2nd we race at Moonee Valley. So City racing on both days.

    Hows the audacity.

The move is about penalty wages, and maybe some of the stuff listed above. But to dress it up for the media about it being for benefit of our provincial brethren, do they really think people are that dumb? FFS they made RWWA pay em compensation cos they had to move one lowly Belmont Saturday for a standalone KBRC, they really gonna move a Perth Cup to suit Pinj?

Pretty much says it all about the committee dynamic that a quality operator like Pinner would be put up to quoting that rubbish. There genuinely is no hope with that club until the Emperor is felled.

Am not even remotely shocked or surprised any more as all tradition, history, relevance and any standing that the race still had disappeared when it was changed from 3200m to a sub standard 2400m event that now means next to nothing without any industry consultation.

Bit sad if the Perth Cup needs NYD to make it an event.
Shouldn't NYD need Perth Cup to make it something ?

ive pretty much had a gut full of all the tripe that comes out of HQ. Regardless of what day its on, don't talk smack about helping Pinjarra and blah blah blah when we know all too well that they will probably do their balls on wages hence the change in date. Its a commercial decision, has nothing to do with helping the wider country racing community. So come out and say that its a commercial decision to save money. I would respect that. And as for promoting the event and the sport, if their facebook posts are anything to go by they also need to look at investing in staff that have a clue.
