Hope they at least are negotiating to have games such as trackside and a keno like game in the new facility with the sale of tab coming they need top lock in the rights to these type of games for the future when they may generate revenue.

They could even look a the rights to wagering on internet games apparently this is taking off cant see it myself but internationally they are betting on these games.
What new facility? I'm missing it - where is there anything about a new facilty at the races?

I'm not having a dig @goose - Ive looked for the carparking as per damo's post and Ive looked for a new facility at the races and cant find either.
I'm missing it - just point me to the page(s)

it aint there as they are plans for the Golden Shower development of the site....not the race club development..think Damo was complaining about extra street parking for the residents

Well farqq me :\"> - Ive been reading shite then for hours #-o

Plans for a few more blocks of flats ( viz apartments). Not too many of them around Perth at the moment. :-B

I read last week that moves are afoot for the sale of the kiln site at Ascot - didnt post it as it has nil effect on racing

this is different - where will the floats park on race day
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
kiln area is owned by PR...as is the Mathieson St carpark, and the newly fenced carpark on that side. But as i'm a member and have not been advised of our assets being sold off, i am certain it was just a rumour

Legless was right. I did mention the lack of parking for the public on race day. On this drawing, it looks to be right down the far end, almost opposite the bridge. Members parking and float parking will be at a premium as most of the existing is lost in this announcement. Perhaps someone can enlighten me, as almost nodetails are referred to for Precinct C, which is the Race Club. No mention of the number of bays for either members or public.

Appendix C in the attached documents, refers to things like additional restrictions on event days at Perth Stadium, hourly rate ticketing, and advertising to patrons of Belmont Park of the non-suitability of Precinct D for race day parking.

One thing that needs to be changed, is the railway station being converted from event only to a regular train stop, as it is currently bypassed. So in other words, no footy and no trains stopping at Belmont Park.

The expected completion or build out of the entire project, is 2031. I hope they took into account the delay so far, as this job was to have broken ground two years ago. (last page of the parking plan appendix C for those build out dates)

There are 1430 apartments, with some 252 hotel rooms and commercial space going into Precinct D. So there is no room for race day parking in what was once the members and float park. The on street parking will be limited to two hours on non event days, and just one hour on event days in just 49 car spaces.

That's what I can get from all these documents on precinct D.

All race club parking in Precinct C shall only be available for use by club patrons on race days
or for regular operations and must have access controls employed

Cant find anywhere what parking there is

:-w on PR to release their plans for Precinct C
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
heaps of parking...biggest roof top bar in the world...its a winter track ffs, so as no one will be up there, put a couple of car lifts out the back and lift them up there.......could develop as an out door cinema thing...you know get lifted to the top of the roof in your car, have waiters serving you popcorn and root beer as you sit in your car watching the races on the big screen.....portable betting machines that you have your bets on, swipe them in the lift on the way down at the end of the day, and by the time you get to the bottom someone is standing there with all your winnings in a brown paper bag...

Yep i'm convinced PR have it sorted...trust them. not much else you can do as they have sold off every other asset they have had!!!! so surely after so many **** ups they have got this one right.

oh and a little footnote, they don't give a **** about the members...what club would allow members facilities like Belmont hang around for a decade????

Looking at the picture, does anyone else think the footbridge is in a weird place? Unless there are some plans to add a heap of bars and restaurants around the Gp site?

The pedestrian bridge is designed to move people using buses (into the CBD) from the road surrounding GP (therefore buses not having to come across the freeway bridge).

Remember you can walk across GFF bridge also, there is a walkway on the underside of the bridge.

I actually see so much potential for PR to use this location as a massive kickstart for them - fingers crossed they do!  From a multi story car park attached to the grandstand, to twilight racing, and Saturday arvo racing before the big Saturday night game across the road, so much potential - let's just hope PR see that too!

    I'm with you LLS.

I was an advocate to give the ground to the government for the stadium, in return for a new facility in the southern corridor....but when that didn't happen and the stadium was across the freeway....Massive opportunity to be a part of the walk/cycle precinct to stretch city living across the bridge.

So good to see the little boat pen back on the diagram. I think in years to come river travel will continue to grow. Go to the races, have a meal on the promenade afterwards, then taxi boat back up the river.....Massive potential.

My serious concern is that PR are not that way inclined. And have proven over the past decade that they struggle to have the right - or have been able to attract the right - commercial partners to make it happen. Well they wont get a second chance. Not much else to sell off.

But the biggest losers in any of this are going to be the members. We've put up with 10 years of substandard facilities that we keep paying for the privilege of. Now with a gleaming new infrastructure we will be charged todays prices (At least double what we are paying would be a fair price for membership in such a great development IMO) whilst not being compensated for years of **** facilities.

But that's life. I hope they restrict membership to 1500, charge $2k for that and invoke a rule that all life members get access to their own special room on the members floor.

What makes the members so special ?

They only joined as it was cheap membership and reserved seating on their own floor. But they largely are not the backbone of race horse ownership and breeding in this State. They don't contribute much more than chump change to turnover with their $1 bets from permanent reserved tables denying other people somewhere to sit to have a drink or something to eat.

When given the opportunity to contribute, they come along to AGM's at a rate of 10% of the base, and bitch and moan about the temperature of the soup or the lack of amenities to make them feel special, like they are the bastions of the club. They then vote en masse with whatever the Chairman says, believing every word he has ever said, because they don't want to rock the boat, and they only came along to the AGM for the free meal afterwards anyway.

All this talk of world class grandstands won't affect them, as they will take that long to complete, most of them will be dead anyway.

So to hell with them. Look after the Industry and the public. They are the ones keeping the dream alive and the next generation of race horse ownership in this State.

They pay every year Damien. Really simple. Its comparatively not cheap and there is no such thing as reserved seating. Mrs Rio and I have stopped going to the races as you cant get a seat in the members. I bet 10% is better than most companies get at the annual meetings??

Pretty hard to run a club without members.. I think there is a constitutional issue there also. Imagine an AFL club saying to hell with the members, lets look after the General Public, players and support staff.

Embrace membership. $200 dollar general admission membership. Free Entry and race book every time they walk in the ground.. Build your data base of regular attendees, and target market to them, via swipe cards. Give them a few double passes, if they are a drinkers give them some free drink vouchers, if they are an eater give them 2 for the price of one burgers, etc, etc, etc.

Memberships should allow clubs to target market to their customers demands..Second guessing what the paying public want on there 4 or 5 trips to the track a year is a dangerous marketing tool in this day and age.

Scheduled to open mid 2017 according to their website. On Racing Radio they said the demo was off until May next year. So the job will be completed in 18 months.

Perth Racing have an electoral process they are about to go through, whereby they wish to make change from a Committee with two year terms, to a board with three year terms, in just over a couple of months. 25% of that board not being elected by the members. So they don't wish to address anything about the vacant land that has been referred to as a redevelopment for many years.

I was told by a well placed source, several months ago, that the project was on an indefinite hold, and its future looked very grim.

If you separate all the media releases and promises of great times ahead, what has really happened with this project ?
