    She has everything in her favour for the Cup today....Shravan should be suited by the track...barrier is perfect and no reason why she cant rate to her liking.....off and gone at the top of the hill...they wont be able to catch her....

    Well the quotes yesterday from one of our reporters suggest otherwise as she said that she lost a lot of race fitness as a result which is important to her as the more she rides the fitter she is, (which is also what both her and Justin told me when I interviewed them months back as without that she can tire towards the end of a program as she's still very much a relatively light 17 year-old kid).

    i spoke to Damien in the middle of a Victorian winter a few years ago out at Seymour....He said he'd had a really tough 2yrs getting rides and driving anywhere he got a ride. Sometimes for just 1 ride.

    I'm sure his only worry was getting A ride...and every other moment of his day was making sure he was fit and ready if he got one.

    Everyone does it tough at some time...I'm sure Lucy could have ridden track work everyday of the week if she wanted to keep her fitness..

    Aaron Mitchell has had 2 tough years over there, bet he is fit and ready when the phone rings!!!

    Get all these arguments about shirking it, but fact remains she is 17. 17 in 2015 <> 17 in 1975. If she were an AFL player she wouldnt have even been drafted yet ...

    If she was homesick, overwhelmed by the workload or not mature enough to handle the competition then that's fair enough. But she wasn't, she was unhappy she wasn't getting the rides she thought she was entitled to after only 8 weeks. She was impatient and left, age is an excuse IMO

    Ironically Darkshines I think that if we didn't have Andrew Carter on here sickeningly promoting her, she would more than likely have a heap more supporters and to be honest I think given the form that she had displayed since returning- this thread would be a Lucy love fest.
    Not so much because he is too pro-Lucy but because he has persistently rubbed too many people up the wrong way.
    @Andrew Carter I feel that if you really want to enhance the prospects of Lucy you should stop defending her too much and let her results and record do the talking. Maybe get back to being the objective journalist rather than the completely biased fanatic.
    All just my opinions of course. Trying my best to be objective as always but it does seem like you are trying to help her so maybe you should

    Has said she is going back for another crack at it - good on her. Don't know anything about the girl, whether it was her 1st time away from the nest or not, how independent she is etc etc. At 17 most kids are completing their last year of school

    No denying she is getting results. and therefore riding well.....just i feel if you head east at 17 with next to no claim it'll be bl00dy rough and tough.

    Need a lot longer than 8 weeks to make a mark..

    Surprised nobody has noticed how big she is. Already taller than most other senior jocks and apprentices. Reckon she will struggle with weight in time.

    Read my story, she's an incredible kid, the amount of travel she had to do on her own each week prior to getting her drivers licence requires incredible dedication and sacrifice as does her weight loss regime. She's remarkably disciplined but she's a competitor and just wants to ride and not be sitting around twiddling her thumbs, I can't blame her at all.
    As for my interest its not being fanatical just recognising a rare talent and am absolutely staggered that some on here can't see her for what she is.
    Justin in all likelihood needed her back here to work his horses and ride them properly anyway and if she wasn't getting the rides over there she was wasting her time.
    It's the smartest thing she could have done rather than continue to lose momentum and she'll go back when she's good and ready.

    does anyone think Pike would walk into a full book of rides on serious chances if he picked up and went to Melbourne???

    if she ever goes back - weight sounds like that will be highly unlikely - it wont be any easier

    wants to ride and not be sitting around twiddling her thumbs

    still cant believe she couldn't find track work to fill the voids

    I'm not sure Pike would walk into a full book on a Saturday, but he would get rides, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't his manager Melbourne or Sydney based?

    and that's my point...he'd get some rides, if he proved himself, he'd get more similar rides....and after a while of that sort of success, he'd start to get winning rides....if he was patient and successful as a senior rider

    Lucy rode a winner for me before she went away. Firstly she was not full of herself. Second she doesn't look like she'll have any trouble with weight to me, third, her comments and feedback were very professional and her riding is up with the best here in wa. Good on her for having a crack over east, the experience won't have done her any harm.

    Polarised views here some knockers, some getting over enthused but she is getting the results and does look to have a long term future.

    Those knocking her decision to return from Melbourne seem to have a hidden agenda.

    It will all play out over the next 12 months.

    Just to clarify - as a knocker of her return - that I have no other agenda.

    She is a great young rider, who I hope continues to develop. Spending longer in Melbourne would have been better for her, like it would be for any other young rider...Someone above said that age could be an excuse.. I agree totally with that...But her age and her lack of mobility would have been well known before she went, and to return and say it was due to lack of opportunities comes across as a bit of a cop out to me.

    She is head and shoulders above any other young riders here, and not far off the same distance ahead of most of the second string seniors we have.

    @Aquanita what other hidden agenda could anyone have??
