... it was a very valuable broodmare owned by Bob Peters, get a grip, something illegal in its system, please.

    Talk about conspiracy theory nonsense.

Take a step back and examine what you have actually written and you might realize the absurdity of it.

Sorry, didn't realise he or anybody are beyond reproach.

The last thing Bob would be worrying about is an autopsy, he would be in total shock (as would anyone with half a brain who owned her) at losing her for starters, if you know anything about horses tragic accident sometimes occur, and yes it is total nonsense and to even try to remotely link her death with events in Victoria and elsewhere is disgusting.
Bob is not exactly short of a dollar and to even remotely imply that it was knocked off speaks volumes for the intelligence of some on here.

Yeah Bob's going to knock it off, (a man who spends more trying to breed a good horse than some on here will ever earn) a well bred Canny Lad mare that he bred himself whose sire is a former champion broodmare sire who himself is now dead and it's a Group 1 winning mare owned by a man who loves nothing more than to breed a good horse and who retains all of his top brood mares, give me a break.

The horse wasn't even in work, all I can say is that there are some very sad, petty, jealous and delusional individuals that frequent this site.

Autopsy would be a waste of time like the rest of them on another note completely how unlucky was Greg Harper to be rubbed out for life like that for going over a threshold most likely would have got a slap on the wrist and a decent fine these days.

    Don't remember anyone implying that.

RIO I don't cut and paste anything mate, my work is always of a high standard as unlike the majority of the so called racing journalists here I actually care and am passionate about my work.
This is why despite having people actively trying to hinder my career because I don't accept at face value the bulldust some officials consistently spew forth, I've still been published in virtually every decent racing and harness racing publication throughout Australia.

I tend to agree with you, Andrew...our "racing journos" are absolutely pathetic.
not ONE word on the horrific accident our ex-WA rider, talia rodder (nee Maor) had in Melbourne on Wednesday. the Melbourne racing press were all over it....not a peep here in perth..all they did was cut and paste some eastern states articles which were of no interest to the majority of us. no cut and paste on talia.
Andrew, what DO they DO all bloody day????

Rod White was a good harness racing journalist for the old Daily News he use to get right into it and attack off the front foot! Loved his trots.

I think that you will find that someone well and truly implied it.

No autopsy? Under normal circumstances as an owner I would insist upon one. But if something was in the system that is illegal then you wouldn't. Therefore the air carrier cannot be held responsible for any misconduct. Comments? I have travelled horses safely sedated on planes no problems.

No idea what happens elsewhere at other publications but unfortunately at the moment I don't get the time to write anything other than rewriting copy when required as I only work two days a weeks for a total of 16 hours during the week on Friday's from about 1pm until 5pm or a bit later and from 10am to 10pm on Saturdays.
Basically I am flat out the entire time helping to put together the sports section of the Sunday Times, I proofread, rewrite copy, check grammar, create headlines, picture captions etc, etc, etc and hardly get a chance to do anything else but hopefully I will eventually get a couple more days work a week and have the chance to do some writing on at least a semi regular basis.

Did she die of a heart attack or did she go off in her crate doing signifigant injuries which the best course of action would be to have the horse euthanised, which would require a vet who would then sign off on the insurance claim, no autopsy required???

The media would be none the wiser and would be told the mare had suffered a heart attack.

Just a theory of course /:)

And you call yourself a journalist?

What was implied or stated was the possibility of something being in its system. You, with your usual paranoia, has turned it into an implication of Peters perhaps killing his own horse.

You've lost the plot. For your sake I hope your employers aren't reading this.

Didn't Bob Peters have Greg Harper train for him?

Yes he did train for him. Greg Harper has won a total of 21 group 1 winners in pacing and gallopers. Not many other have that record.

It is also interesting to look back on the breeding records of the group and black type races that he won with Peters horses to note that they all bred on with winning foals.

The only positive swab he ever had was bi-carb that you can buy from you local deli, it is not a drug.

It is common knowledge that most of his swabs were frozen for retesting all with negative results.

For all his knockers he is a top horseman.

that is surely a pisstake... greg harper and honorable man? he rooted racing for years with his plunges and milkshakes. next youll be telling us mark reed was a straight shooter  b-(

As a horse owner if i was told my horse had died...my first question would be how??

Then if told by a heart attack I'd the ask...how do you know that???

And if the horse was as good as her, my next statement would be to have an autopsy to make sure that it wasn't some virus that might effect every horse that had been in contact with her...

Now i think about it, I'm surprised Williams didn't insist on it to rule out a virus that may put all his horses at risk...bit irresponsible actually in relation to good care of other owners valuable animals.

Imagine if another one drops off in the next 48hours????  mmmmm

Cmon Super Snoop are those two any worst dont think so myself . Also Andrew can you please make sure the Quaddie divvys from interstate are published in the Sunday Times always seem to be missing?
  • LeglessLegless    5,108 posts

Andrew Carter when you fly a horse internationally a vet goes with them, plus they have to be insured. Interstate they only have a handler and a valuable mare like Elite Belle normally would be insured too. I ask you with no vet who could determined what she died of isn't a responsibilty to do an autopsy?

If she was insured then an autopsy would be done before insurance is paid.

I doubt she was insured - an owner with many valuable horses would probably find it cost effective not to insure.

eg to insure a horse for 200k = approx $7500 per year - say you have 10 worth insuring for $200k - you have to weigh up the likely hood of claiming once every 3 years to make it a financially viable option.

Just say - hypothetically ofc -  you had in excess of 50 broodmares, around 40 in work, a couple of them top liners - would the risk outweigh the insurance premium (s) :-?

All I implied.... With NO vet how the hell did anyone know it was a heart attack. That's the reason a investigation or autopsy is relevant... It may have been from sedation, but we will never know NOW. I've know horses to have heart attacks but they are usually under stress after a race, not standing in a tin can on a plane. It is another practice to euthanize if a horse reacts  badly on a plane or it could bring the plane down. 1/2 ton of horse thrashing around is very dangerous. Or this scenario.. The sedation reacted with other drugs in the system, take your pick. My concern was for how the horse was being treated Not the owner or the trainer no matter who they are!

Excuse me but you have no right to know as it's not a racing matter, Bob owns the horse, (if he chooses to speak or not to about what's occurred that's his prerogative) it has nothing to do with myself or the general public, had this happened on a racetrack or in trackwork other than at home, at trials etc then it's a completely different story.
Out of competition while embarking on a potentially lucrative interstate trip I would tell you all to go to hell as it's none of your business as I would be devastated at losing the horse and in no mood to put with anyone's crap.

I would have thought given the current climate and the likelihood that conspiracy theories will abound that authorities (if they have that right) would have demanded an autopsy.

To hear today that there is (seemingly) none being performed is very surprising.

And Rio, I concur with your first sentence:

"As a horse owner if i was told my horse had died...my first question would be how??"

and the better the horse, the louder the question.

However stewards could order an autopsy, and old bob would have to suck it up and have one done, or risk being warned off, problem over here is they have no balls
