I'd probably make it a Smoko, Magnifiso, then Dueton/Celebrity Miss tri for $2, then a handful of units...

Problem is Celebrity Miss has gone from Pike to Parnham....

I don't like Magnifisio at all to be honest. I think Smoko is a 2 length better horse at level weights.

I'll back the Sujet/Smoko double heavily.

You just couldn't entertain taking the top weight. I wish Barakey was in because Smoko would have made a meal of him to.

Can't have smoko first up after an interrupted prep (epically ant that price) one of my golden rules happy for him to win but at 1.6 won't be with my money on definitely won't be laying tho.

I think smoko will try and cross rouge dior. Can't back him at 1.60 but do hope he wins

me neither, but I still think he will win.. Crossing Rouge Dior??? think he will run his own race at his own tempo and account for Rouge Dior whether he stays one out or crsosses.

But that is why I like Dueton..to sit off them and be the best to be taking ground off Smoko.

I will back Dueton to place with a small saver on the win, and the above quinella and tri's... Dueton at a place is better than Smoko for a win and I am confident of both of them....That should see them end up last and second last!!!!

    is she your horse ?

  • DamienWyerDamienWyer    7,985 posts
No, I purchased her for Alan Macalister. My comment is purely commercial. She is too valuable as a brood mare and if she can't win in that class she is better going to be served by an Eastern States based Stallion as her page would at least have her offspring considered for all sales excluding Sydney Easter

Gave a lot of weight away to the rest of the field in that race today.

If she were mine I would be giving her ago at the upcoming WFA program in summer.

Something along the lines of Prince of Wales, Lee Steere (1400m) ? and finish with the Winterbottom.

14 weeks to the P of W - plenty of time to let her have good break and get her up again

Shouldn't have lost any admirers today Smoko. Had every right to fade over the concluding stages but was going as well as anything on the line excluding the winner and he had a rails run that was a fast lane all day.

I bet u wouldn't. How many Group winners have u had?
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
Why's that an issue???.I don't expect people to remember but i don't buy or breed horses for that type of racing.. i'd still send her to the barn....mated to the right sire could generate more $$$$$$$ than another campaign.

    Long time retired
    Nothing wrong with her.
Lots of nice mares races over summer.
And she can make a lot more in one race than she will in a whole breeding season.

just checked and she is only 4......thought she was 5, nearly 6.....so based on age and the above i'd probably go around again. She seems to carry weight okay, and she'll have too with that rating..

Dont jump down my throat here honest question.

Having a discussion with a mate today and how the standard of Melbourne and Sydney winter saturday meetings now are full of quality. 3-4 years ago you could pick out a nice horse that might go on but if you look at meetings like today its just full of quality.

Being a massive fan of perth racing previously i always backed perth horses coming over but the landscape of racing has changed massively and not just because of the imports.

I think only the Barakeys and smokos would be able to hit the east with confidence now where as in the past there might have been 15-20 that could be competitive.

the problem with perth racing is that officials have downgraded it.
there is no clear path to the top.
perth racing tops before 'black type' begins, is basically a 78+ or more usually 72+
the so called 'black type' handicaps start at 90+
that's at least 6kg between the normal and the start of the 'black type', and it's just to much difference.

just by coincidence, tonight  i have been looking at the weights carried by your average 'black type' handicap winner.
there had been about 23 90+ races since the last template change.
11 of them have been won by horses on the limit weight.
the reason for that, is because horses just like pininci often win, and then they get huge rating increases, which are not deserved, because those races are not as strong as the handicappers think they are.
so they have the rating and thus the weight, but mostly the rating is a nonsense and they can't keep going. thus those on the limit will keep on winning disproportionately.
and it's a never ending circle.

as an example pininci was a 77 before today, but the race was supposedly a 96+, so if the handicapper follows his normal nonsense pininci will go to 99 or so.
this means that horses he would have met on level terms yesterday, he now has to give 11 kg to!!!
and i am guessing that if he reads this it will probably be less, but whatever it will be too much.
does anybody really believe pininci is that good?

Not sure that it is the RBT - but more so the programming.

    Need a lot more 82 - 85 races -

I think she could have won over Winter leading into Spring in Melbourne. However she would have needed to be based with a leading stable in either Sydney or Melbourne to have achieved that. With luck, she may have had success at Listed level there but not much more. Talk of her racing on to a Gr 1 Winterbottom I think are ill placed as she would have to go around in unsuitable lead up races here in WA. Her resume would have been much better for the experience of an Interstate move prior to her being served in 2015.

As it stands now, I would select the hottest stallion in the sales ring and just cover her whilst she has some great years in front of her.
