think they called he's color : roan ?
Catch a Bird doesn't contain alot of The Tetrarch so not really 100% certain but more often than not that's where odd colored thoroughbreds trace too. They now think the coloring comes from a gene mutation which they haven't pin pointed exactly but assigned to chromosome 21 ( gene ECA21 )
which more than likely originated from The Tetrarch in the thoroughbred

The striped colt pictured above is believed to be Chimera or somatic mutation in colouring. Google Chimera you'll find a few like him the pattern is only on one side on him.
