Kal. Cup stand alone meeting
West Australian Racing
Just read the article in West about Kal Cup being stand alone meeting, the trial period, its impact on the others (esp. PR) and the cost of subsidising it .
I was able to make up my mind - but not so the CEO of our boss body - he is quoted as saying
" My personal view is that I am ambivalent." -
so let me get this right :- this from the person who will make a recommendation - to a board - that doesn't know racing - to make a decision related to this important industry matter ? WTF / OMG / LOL

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Club will need to make a strong case to
retain the Kalgoorlie Cup as a stand-alone meeting, with the racing
industry left in the red at the end of its three-year trial.
While
the KBRC said punters splurged $2.2 million on last month's Kalgoorlie
Cup meeting, the fixture cost the racing industry $100,000.
Racing
and Wagering WA has to pay Perth Racing $100,000 compensation each year
for the club to switch from its traditional Saturday fixture to Sunday,
where it is affected heavily by higher staff costs, smaller crowds and
much less TAB turnover.
RWWA accepted a three-year trial for WA's first stand-alone Saturday provincial meeting in 2011.
With
this year's Belmont Sunday meeting abandoned because of issues with the
track, RWWA chief executive Richard Burt has undertaken a review of
the trial.
"The facts are we are spending industry money and
financially it does not stack up to have a stand-alone meeting in
Kalgoorlie," Burt said.
"My personal view is that I am ambivalent.
"Perth Racing agreed to the trial provided they were compensated for switching to Sunday.
"We calculate they are down $40,000 in wagering margin on-course by racing on a Sunday.
"Ideally,
Saturday is a better day for them because to race on Sunday they have
higher staff costs to trade on Sunday, less vision into Asia and smaller
crowds.
"But they agreed to the trial and moved to Sunday.
"RWWA
has to justify spending industry funds and when the industry is
subsidising 50 per cent of that cost there needs to be growth for the
money to be recovered.
"There is not a compelling argument on the
… it does not stack up to have a stand-alone meeting ..." *Richard Burt *financial figures alone and there needs to be wider reasons to
continue. We expect to have an answer in a month."
Since when have they ever done this??????
RWWA
has to justify spending industry funds and when the industry is subsidizing 50 per cent of that cost there needs to be growth for the
money to be recovered.
And they are still compensating PR even though the Belmont track wasn't fit for racing?????? WTF?? how can you compensate someone cos they aren't allowed to put an event on, even though they were not in a position where they could put an event on, if they were allowed???? How phucked are these johnnies..
Seriously...one thing i can say is; that I'm not ambivalent in my opinion of RWWA's incompetence

From what I heard the 1st year the standalone happened a group of people helped fund the money to pay for the compensation to PR, not RWWA?
If this is the case then and they don't want to lose money, why don't PR run a midweek meet during the Bunbury carnival week? Does Bunbury have to compensate them for no mid week meet?
So much for them wanting to help clubs and keep the industry "ALIVE", RWWA you are a joke!
good idea, funk, the GF raceday at belmont is a fizzer so to hold the cup that day is a winner imo.
especially seeing pr cannot calibrate the TV screens....
:))Sounds like a win, win, win too me
I did have it pointed out to me last night that PR actually could have put a meeting on if the meeting was held on the Saturday..As the track was race fit on Saturday but not on Sunday due to the rain event over night and in the morning...
mmmmmm....i think the person who rang was splitting hairs!!!!!!!
If they did go back a week or so then the other clubs that usually start after Kal would have to go back a week or so as well or else they wouldn't be able to have a bet....
Edit:
Also how can they properly gauge if it was successful or not, the first year it was pissin down rain, the second year was fine weather and this year it was abandoned. So out of the 3 years only 1 of them was a actual good weather day. But that is enough for them to say no its a bad idea can the whole thing.

I've worked it out - Mailman is an 8 year old girl! That would explain the use of the term "lol" and the daily lack of literacy skills we're all exposed to.
Keep getting faves rolled pal, chin up.
