    Scenic I do not care if you listen to me or not as I do not decide what you do with your money that is your private business all I am stating is that having worked on horse studs in WA and over east and prepared a lot of yearlings I do have some insight into what happens to the horses behind closed doors . So if you want to buy a yearling at a sale go for it as it is your CHOICE not mine.

    So you made some lucky choices well done but the percentage of winners coming from a yearling sale is not good.

    Tony you would think Redoutes Choice would throw some good stayers out of those mares he seems to be more of a staying sire these days or is that a wrong call?

    If he cannot get a decent stayer from the Aga's mares he will never do so imo.

    I stand to be corrected but I do not think he has yet had a group winning open age stayer.

    Does Miss Finland count?
    She won the 2007 Arrowfield Stud Stakes Group 1 2000m as a 4yo.
    She also won the 2500m VRC oaks but that was as a 3yo filly.

    No she does not meet "my" criteria as the Arrowfield was/is for 3yo fillies (she was 3 when she won).

    A top class filly but like a lot of top 3yo she won the Oaks because she was the best horse not the best stayer.

    RC has thrown Derby winners, but i can't recall older staying winners. I'm sure he's had a few but no big staying race winners come to mind

    Was thinking of Mabsam and the Oaks placegetter? and Cantonese by staying I meant 1600m to 2400m he doesnt seem to get the early runners now.
    Nadeem also seems like he may throw stayers would think Musket could be a good sire of stayers when doies he have 2yr olds?

    All RC's older staying types here have been more 'pretender' than real deal, over 2000m (like Rekindled Interest, Red Lord, Empire's Choice). Zero open age G1 winners over any sort of trip. Given his overall SW to runners numbers, truly is a damning stat. Amazing in hindsight that they could onceslug hundreds of Ks for service fee on a sire basically guaranteed to be unable to win any of the rich races (bar the Slipper).

    Maybe with different maternal bloodlines, and more importantly different training techniques, he will get a chance to get open age stayers over there. Possibly like Danehill, his Northern Hemisphere record with real stayers (like Distinction) was much better than here (again classy 2000 types like Elvstroem and Zipping who had honesty to stick further). Except Danehills won plenty of open age G1s at 2000 or slightly further here.

    It's funny, he never shuttled because he was (apparently) uninsurable, obviously he's worth a lot lot less than he once was.

    Totally agree Darkshines think he is very over rated has had the best of mares but do think he could sire a star stayer out of the european mares will be interesting to see how they progress.

    Some good quality yearlings on parade yesterday, especially the draft at Geisel Park Stud, well presented and a lot of well balanced yearlings.

    Geisel Park & Gold Front have gone one better and have posted their respective drafts on sirecam! The Geisel draft look equally as good on video as they did in the flesh on the Open Day, thanks to Eddie & the team!

    @SPUDLEY bullshit, dive in head first and take a chance..heaps out there for well under 10K..one impulse hand raising urge and you can have a lifetime of excitement.....

    Oops sorry.....was typing whilst asleep.....off out there today to try to get to the final handful...Fun????? 4 weeks of trolling through data and doing inspections to see if you can find one that looks alright that you can afford..in Perth you pick out about 20 and of them 15 you cant afford and the other 5 are all a compromise..hahahaha..All good fun. Doubt i will buy this year but important to look and learn and be ready for when the time i s right...

    I would never buy from a yearling sale, again. It's just not worth it.

    I buy tried horses, now. They come over half fit. You don't pay for breeding, you only pay for it's form.

    And if i can give you one tip, never, ever tell anyone what horse youre interested in or how much you are willing to spend.

    Very funny Rio just got back from Belmont had a look at a couple, was a good afternoon finished off by a nice meal provided by the breeders thought this was a very good idea by them a really nice gesture.

    yep..don't believe in something for nothing, so stopped off in Vic Park for a meal on the way home..great afternoon and once again learnt a bit more from those who have been around for a while..not sure it means i know more than yesterday or will buy one... but always good to listen and try to absorb as much as possible.

    Very busy out there Mr Spudley, but agree that it was a good afternoon...hope i'm not bidding against you or anyone else from on here on Wednesday..

    but there would be a few breeders pretty happy, with some of the prices paid...probably too many passed in - 40 out of 173(12 withdrawn), is roughly 23%

    Looked to be some great prices paid today despite some negative publicity on the forum. Julia Love bought a number of horse where do her horses end up?
