Rouge Dior - Boat Race

Another Saturday, another boat race.

At least the Stewards asked the question to Parnham about why he handed up the lead. But lets be serious he could have answered in Japanese and the stewards would have accepted his repsonse.

Where was the question to Whiting as to why he did not show the same initiative to lead as Turner did given the horse has led in the past.

And before I get told to stop jumping at shadows I'll respond in advance with get your heads out of the sand.

    A couple of points to make here.
    Firstly surely Rouge Dior opened and then drifted to a price that was way over the odds. For a horse with an outstanding record at the 1000m it looked like a clear third pick in the market with it's starting price closer to what I would have envisaged it opening at. Perhaps that was one of the reasons for the money.
    In saying that I did have Peggies Dream and Bombora on top of it in my assessment and a significant part of my investment on the race on Peggies Dream to win. Having seen the race the once I thought Peggies Dream was given every chance to win the race.
    I can however see though why questions keep arising out of these type of races. Personally I just think that there have been much "stranger" races than this one.

    The unlimited money is the key to these huge huge plonks. It is fascinating to watch on cheatfair as those punting will just take all and any money available regardless of the price. It really is reminiscent of the trots in the 1990s when the price was irrelevant. I think what makes it worse now is that we are all aware of the way these horses which are backed will just go straight to the front and nothing will take them on.

    certainly didn't get an easy lead, the race I watched Rouge Dior did plenty of work for the first 400

    Also punters can only go on a horses form , they dont know how they are eating up at home or working on the track ,they also dont get to feel what the jockey feels in a race ( how the horse is travelling / breathing etc etc) so imo alot of bagging going on for not fully knowing whats happening.
    Also the horse in question goes very good not supprised she won as i was on $$$$$.

    Fair point Jonesee and I didn't have the chance to monitor Betfair closely on this event. However once the momentum starts on either a drifter or a shortener on Betfair it can look alarming but the result of the race is not always indicative of the market move. In my opinion, and reiterating I have only seen the race once, I just don't think that Rouge Dior going to the lead rang any alarm bells. As Piston_Broke stated the horse done a bit of work and the overall time was relatively quick.

    The work she did to get to the front I thought well the plonk will go astray here but just kept finding in the straight with 2 very good horses chasing who just couldn't get there be interesting to see how it goes next start I certainly wouldn't be taking the shorts which will be on offer

    I thought DR Miller[aka Fishy as they look so much alike in the saddle ] he cocked up by handing up if Peggies got to the front she wins but they all backed of and the money horse won again pilot error from Whiting on Peggies IMO but she is looking for 1200m now and the Wiz will be back on next start :)

    Rouge Dior did a ton of work so can't see this pattern as being suspicious.
    Having said that, it was backed with incredible confidence against two very good horses and ridden with even more confidence.

    Haha this thread was so predictable.. If fish had of kicked through and held RD out and then both horses get gassed and beaten then the title of this thread would have been Whiting stuffs up or WA jocks are useless etc etc etc.

    have only watched the race once (live) and i thought i was home and hose on Peggies Dream, cos of the work RD was doing to get over and settled in front...then down the straight, i was on the phone ordering the Moet when she didn't get past!!!!..

    RD fought on well and i just left it at that, cos PD had every opportunity to get over the top...haven't spent a second on checking anything out, in relation to the other questionable races I've looked at over the past 6 months...thought RD was a great run...but give Peggie another furlong and a run or two and i reckon she will get the job done...it was a tough run for her too.

    If it was a boat race, why wasn't anyone prepared to take the $5 about Rouge Dior on Cheatfair? The horse was going to lead over 1000m with an easterly breeze. It's not like she got away with a 25 second 1st 400m. The pace was genuine.

    It was competitive riding which ever way you look at it. Rouge Dior wanted the front but they didn't give it easily. That's all you ask when punting.

    Those that are interested in Dion Luciani's thoughts on the Boat Races should have a read of twitter. Apparently we are drop kicks because we hide behind fake names. Well Dion you don't need to our names all you need to know is that we are the punters that put all the money into this industry and we will complain if we feel fit. Instead of trying to deny what is going on why don't you do something about it. One of your jockeys is one of the worse offenders.

    Good call Thumper , we buy the horse , we pay the trainers fees and every other fee and then we ask a small question and get told to shut up .
    So we can whinge all we like , no owners no racing , simple .

    Dion showing his age time to grow up ,trainers need owners otherwise they wont have a business to run isnt that right Dion all opinion is welcome chill out young fella :)

    Agree no way was that a boat race IMO Fishy pulled the wrong rein by handing up i reckon if Peggies had got to the top it would have been good night Irene what it was was a massive effort by the winner
