Got to be mentally strong to work in a TAB these days - very long hours putting up with mentally ill customers b-(
Would be hard to keep a smile on your face for 10 to 12 hours a day

Presumably they have seen better (and more profitable) days.
  • TomSmartsTomSmarts    124 posts
Still very profitable - some more so now than 2-5 years back.
When I say I am surprised their not selling...I am talking about the new agreement swinging in the air at the moment.
They have to change the whole buying structure so that younger people can afford to buy in...and that's not happening.
You have to be a Millionaire to buy one these days :-\"

The operating hours is a shambles...

I had a punt the other Sat and as I tend to do, put a few bets on in the morning with cash, at the TAB, then head off and do things of an arvo...On this particular day we were going to see a band at The Rosemount so at abou 8pm, on the way, I tohught I'd drop into the Hydey and collect a couple of tickets to pay for the night, Hydey terminals closed...at 8pm...on a Saturday. Drove past the one near the Brissy....closed. The one near the Inglewood Hotel....closed.

    Cracked the sads.

It's always been a joke. I'd rip TAB's out of Pubs unless they commit to being opened when the Pub is open. If the dudes behind the jump cant work the terminal get em bloody trained. I dont mind having to wait if they've got drinks to pour, but give me an option to collect if I have a win!

    I just don't get it.

Any idea on the highest price paid for a TAB and which TAB would currently have the largest turnover?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,474 posts
i hear that little pub tab at the tavern in the strand, dianella does 100k a week.
not bad for a very small tavern.

slip, thought the tab at malaga had the highest t/o.

Didn't a small syndicate of punters from that tavern have a decent lotto win a few years back.. I'm informed some ex bookies were regulars there. I don't know if they still are but your figures Falcon may indicate so.

@SLIPPERGOLDEN - Would have to think the TAB at the Casino would have to have a decent turnover, given the cash floating around the room!

@Carlosa see my post on the first page, your experience seems very similar to mine!

go to that one and one in Gosnells regularly (as well as Maylands, inglewood, Dianella, Bentley, Bibra Lake, etc, etc)..both always full, but not sure how big the punters are?? Would guess on Gosnells being busier

$1m for Barrack Street would be hard to beat.
Many TABs are different - some have large ticket t/o low dollars, others low ticket count high dollars.
Belmont - shit load of bets for low dollars

yes slip, there was a lotto win for a group of drinkers at the tavern....not huge but very handy.
