It was good to see Wes receive a special award from Ron Fleming at the Apprentice Jockey Awards last night.
Wes puts a lot of time in to helping these young people and it was a worthy recognition of his efforts.
It was a great night as usual and well done to all the winners and nominees.
Well done Wesley!

    from last count we have Ron Fleming, Charlotte Vickers, John Claite, Jeremy Hustwitt and Laurie Millington all helping the apprentices. So Wes is also involved in the apprentice scheme, is that correct

    Wes helps out with media awareness and presentation skills.

    I must say that judging by the way most apprentices handle appearances on radio Wes is doing a first class job.

    agree he does a good job, when does he sleep, he does trots, gallops and the radio, I haven't heard too many on the radio, only on post race interviews

    The more the merrier piston..... apprentices are the future and any help they can get to further their career the better. Would love that list above to be longer. Wes is prob one of many supporting the industry and its juniors so why the need to question that??

    Anyone that has been involved in development of young people in any profession would know how difficult it is to bring them through and in the right way.
    The team at RWWA work very hard on getting the right type of youngsters in the system and in an environment that is conducive to learning and in keeping with the modern workplace.I have seen a vast improvement in the communicational skills of the apprentices in recent times and in this industry it is very important.
    Wes puts a lot of time in and it is good that he has been recognised for his contribution.

    if anyone thinks the apprentice system in WA is working you must be dreaming. go and have a look at the systems in place in Vic, where they are continuously turning out very polished apprentices year after year.

    I was in no way knocking Wes but Chester said that Wes puts alot of time in to helping these young people, all I asked is what did he do? as I didn't realise Wes was involved in the apprentice system. If he had received an award as to involvement in the Racing Industry for his effort I would never have asked such a simple question.

    The team at RWWA work very hard on getting the right type of youngsters.........I didn't think they knocked many young people back who wanted to start a apprenticeship, surely the numbers tells you that

    Unlike you Piston to be unaware of anything happening in Racing in WA ???

    Having had a limited involvement with media and presentation skills with the Apprentice School about 8 years ago, I can personally vouch for the effort and care put in by the people that work at that school. They do a remarkable job.

    Obviously there is a bigger pool of kids in Vic and NSW Piston. Wes is a terrific ambassador for racing in WA. You were having a crack that backfired on you. =;

    I wasn't having a crack at all, I had no idea he had a role with apprentices, was why I was surprised he was given the recognition for that. It's a simple as that Wilson, Help is the word Chester used hence why I asked "what help"

    Wilson maybe I should have re phrased the question to make it easier for you to understand because I didn't think "exactly how does Wes help the apprentices" would be difficult for you. (that is having a crack) ;)
