bit lop-sided penalties by the look of it.
to me, colbeck should have got time too.
6 weeks for giving a lippy apprentice a slap...too tough...
    appeal mr. heffernan...

Or maybe a senior jock should be more mature..
  • attempted is normally considered as good as a punch, strange penaltys

Watched the replay and they were traveling together.. Heffernan went to the outside and Coldbeck went the inside.....Heffernan got 2nd, Coldbeck got 7th..so maybe when they got back to the jockey's room there was a bit of unhealthy bragging going on?????????

Then again maybe it had something to do with the horse they were riding...Heffernan was on INTIMIDATOR and Coldbeck was on DEMANDS ATTENTION..

Just to clarify i don't KNOW why or how it came to a head..the above was just a bit of light hearted guessing..the only bit of second hand gossip i got was that Heffernan would go for a holiday and Coldbeck wouldn't..So from that I'd guess Heffernan was more at fault than Coldbeck...

  • my mail is that the apprentice was mouthing off a little about the protest involving Heffernan and the winner, he got a tap in the mouth and the apprentice retaliated but missed, Dan offered heffernan a shot outside in between compliments. Not saying Heffernan didn't deserve the 6 weeks, unforgivable a senior rider tapping an apprentice, but by all counts he asked for it, very lucky boy to only get fined, Dan just doing what any boss would do, sticking up for his kid.

It's only what I have been told

Ned Colbeck is a pretty well mannered and respected person from what i know, the other bloke is the complete opposite. Deserved every bit of 6 weeks.

mate your on the money there i know of ned through trackwork hes been riding a bit for the stable im tied up with and yes hes a very nice young man with in my opinon a very bright future.
  • Motivated you think Ned is pretty? nice to know
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,471 posts
no comma after "pretty", piston, so motivated is in the clear.

i find it odd that when a couple of jocks have a stouch it gets all this publicity. jeez, they're in a high pressure, dangerous game and of course tempers must get frayed and emotion goes on high alert.
it isn't though he pulled a knife...just gave the kid a bit of a clip for being lippy.
fine them both 100 bucks and forget it.
do footy plaers get 6 weeks for a similar thing? if they did at least they'd still be getting paid.. :x
  • possibly the most sensible thing I have ever seen u print Falc

100% agree with motivated and cruiser!

Ned is a very well mannered well liked guy at the track - the other is very questionable!

The senior rider is apparently up and shifting to sydney - what a shame!!! not!

Nah .........absolute crap.......Plenty of nice young blokes have given cheek and coped a whack for it.... Saint Ned....give me a break !!!!!!
I have only had a few dealings with Heffernan and he has come across as an easy going type of person, very approachable. Maybe the kid deserved it ?????? None of us were there to witness what actually went on, but to condemn the senior rider because a couple of us think Ned is a choir boy.....ya gotta be kidding.
Yes, Heffernan is off to NSW to take up a position with Paul Perry and good luck to the bloke.....he's been riding in fair form and who knows what the future could hold for him. Take your opportunities when they present I believe.

    cheers
  • Heffernan went to NSW on Monday, a shame he got 6 weeks, horses certainly ran for him, again only what I was told was that he was offered the stable job for Pete Fernie but NSW was more inviting.

I know who I would rather have my cash on if it came down to a finish, and it wouldn't be an apprentice

Can't believe PB you are spruiking AHeff... from the handful of times I've seen him riding I couldn't have him. Seriously thought you had better eyes than what your comments on this thread suggest. Either you like him as a bloke or you dislike Colbeck?
Looks aren't everything fo sho but this dude didn't look pretty in the saddle nor could he steer either.

    Good luck in NSW pal!

Yep, AH had plenty on the other one as a rider IMO

5 winners at double figure odds in the last month for Heffernan. Coldbeck's winners in the last month have all had single digit SP.
I'd have The Heff in front.

what was that thing Ned rode for Godecke in the midweeks... Electioneer? that paid doubles i think?

At the end of the day, smacking a minor over a comment made is rediculous. If someone has the audacity to do such a thing on a racecourse, especially knowing the consequences must be simple minded and it is best they are repremanded. He could have gotten him back in a more appropriate way like doing a dump in his jockeys bag or something like that which wouldn't result in suspension.

Bobby never met AH or the lad, I said horses ran for him, which they did, agree he looks untidy, he is typical English style, so that is 90% of the time untidy.
Didn't think saying I would rather have my $ on him than Coldbeck was spruiking him, but do know for a fact that AH is a good judge. Also the fact that Rodent, Voodoo and DS agree with me shoots you down in flames

That was 11/4/12 i.e almost 6 weeks before my post (not in the last month).

hey guys i just happen to know both riders AH is know fool & you guys who go on about ned being aKID he is not. i stand to be corrected but he is nearly in his 20s a KID he is not & i beleive he grabed AH first . unfortunatly some of these young blokes are of the view they can speak to senior riders how they like even after they have been the result of interference in races. beleive me i have seen first hand evidence of some of these young blokes get very lippy to senior riders when they have.pointed out where they have made errors in a race. & to a lesser extent the girls who do tend to listen to the advice given by most senior riders. yes ned is not a bad rider & for all intense & purpose a good bloke .but it clearly appears he over stepped the line here . and to suspend AH for 6wks is an absolute joke . i cant recall any rider being rubbed out for this type of little fracar . the general penalty is ahefty fine but i stand to be corrected.cheers
  • ta Alt, I was only going on 2nd hand information, but is much the same as what you have said. As I said b4 the penalties seemed very strange

How can you know "for a fact" that he is a good judge? What is this based on?
  • based on the obvious

I didn't have an opinion on any of the stuff in this thread, but i just accidentally watched a replay with AH in it..i was amazed that he didn't fall off..his riding action is ...um...someone above wrote UNTIDY...... That's being kind.

Not judging his ability as the replay i was watching he positioned the horse well and rode it to the front..but his style????? If i was another jock I'd be trying to get in close to his mount as he'd cause interference to anyone that cam up alongside him..let him do the work and fire in a protest..... 8)

hi rio neither did i & yes i agree AHs riding style is not the best look . quiet frankly these english guy do at times appear all out of sync with the horse sometimes .but this subject is about an apprentice mouthing of to a senior rider who i,am quiet sure has a lot more race riding exsp than ned colbeck . my issue &point is these young guys who should be listening &learning are being quiet dismissive of advice by senior riders just because they have ridden a few winners & read how good they are in some media reports .i might add i read every stewards report of all races in this state &the amount of times these kids cause interferrance & get a warnning for repeating the same thing only exasabates the problem between them &senior riders .its time some of them were sent back to trials . but it gets back to respect & some of them don"t have that to senior riders. cheers. oh & some of these are MATURE age apprentices not young kids . but then again there all kids to old  blokes like you & i rio    :D :D

    Oh yeah..original thread...

Fully accredited jock shouldn't smack leaner in chops..even if learner may be slow learner and not know when to stop being lippy..2 weeks for the jock..1 week for the learner..altho i like the theory put, that the senior jock dumps in learners bag!!!  You know a little 5hit gets a little 5hit

A lot of the young don't have much respect for anyone - even themselves..and let's be honest as every day goes by there is more people younger than us than there is older!!!!
