How was the run of power princess, sitting wide outside Black Caviar.
Would have been a thrill for owners just to see her in the same screen shot as BC, let alone running third after that run?

will look great on her resume.

Agreed great run by the princess. Caviar is all class isn't she!
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
this might be slightly out of topic over here, but given Black Caviar has now been to Brisbane and Adelaide, who is still doubting she was ever coming to Perth?

I reckon she was coming for sure but things just didnt pan out. PR should consider themselves a bit unlucky.

    top run by the princess.

also thought all friared up ran on well too.

diva, you are a pretty smart dude but to even contemplate she was coming to perth......

Power Princess certainly lived up to her name and was a great example for all of us over here in sleepy hollow.

And agree with Diva..i reckon the intent was to bring her over, but it just didn't happen..and i'd be surprised if we ever see her now.. :(

Careful Falcon with that attitude you may be spoken of in the same breath as your good mate Della...very negative...

Would the historical preference for hard tracks over here have anything to do with the no show?
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
possibly, but given she has gone to Adelaide, I reckon the intent was there to come to Perth. Maybe they thought better of it at the last minute, OR, as reported, she was just ready for a spell.
You cant really say, now that she showed up in Adelaide, that she was never a chance of coming?

edit: Im sure they'd have watered the track for her if that was the crunch factor?
  • Raff_2000Raff_2000    802 posts
You'd like to think that Peter Moody would have had every intent of bringing her over here providing she was content within herself and in racing condition. A horse like this doesn't come along all that often so if I were in his shoes i'd be thinking to myself that i'd like spectators from all over Australia to be given the opportunity to see her race and not just from over East.

She won't ever race in Barakey's back yard.

Barakey is the only horse in Australia that over her pet distance, has an outside chance of beating her. Black Caviar is an exceptional animal, probably the best sprinter in Australian history, but she won't come here, as she has too much to lose on questionable surfaces, in races that are poorly viewed by the rest of the Country, only to run into the best horse excluding her in Australia.

Whilst Black Caviar is in the UK and post travelling and spelling, Barakey will be smashing the East Coast before returning here to win at will in whatever he contests.

For those on course yesterday at Northam, the ovation he received from 100M to the winning post was a precursor of what is to come in the months ahead.

Barakey vs Black Caviar Vs Atlantic Jewel over 1200m.

Now that would be a race worth travelling for!

let ours prove itself against a few better ones over the next few runs and then i reckon you could name your price for tickets to that contest..there would be no need to offer free entry to get the crowd numbers up!!!

But as every run goes by the chance of all 3 being on the same track at the same time is diminishing. i will be very pleasantly surprised if that race very eventuates...Especially with the program over the next 6 months for Black Caviar. If she comes through that unbeaten why would you keep running her??? And if she gets beat, why continue??? send her to the barn and start selling million dollar weanlings!!!!!

Damien, you have to be on drugs to even say Barakey would get anywhere near Black Cavier, he has proven nothing yet and has a long way to go. I would be interested only in one persons opinion at this stage and it's Jason Browns. He has ridden Scenic Blast, Hay List and now Barakey, he stated very early on that Hay List was better than Scenic Blast and everyone laughed, I think he proved that correct as in my opinion Scenic Blast didn't meet anything of the calibre of Hay List , Black Cavier, Rain Affair or Foxwedge. At this stage he seems to be very quiet on Barakeys ability, so I would be really careful until he at least meets something descent. This horse has once again been placed incredibly well so he really still has a lot to prove and I'm sure in the long run he will prove it, but way off at this stage.

well it was not too impressive at northam i don't think, so hopefully that was an aberration.

WOW...Huge call, Barakey no doubt a great horse, but should not be mentioned in the same breath as Black Caviar and Atlantic Jewel....not yet anyways....

Black Caviar would kick Barakeys brains in if they met right now.....Barakey a great horse on the improve no doubt....But BC is in a class of her own Worldwide...

Great run by the mare Power Princess, eyeballing BC at the 600m 4 deep wasn't great tactics, to tough it out and run 3rd was a credit to her toughness.

Not on drugs, not even on alcohol, don't smoke whacky tobbaccy either, but have seen some wonderful horses and this bloke is one of them.

Jason & Jim I don't think, would feel comfortable making any such statements as I do, Jim even asked me not to photograph him yesterday out the back in the stables as he considered it bad luck. (photo's on my page and Barakey page later this evening by the way) So I don't think you will get my theory confirmed by either of these two gents. I spoke at length with Wes Cameron yesterday and even he thought I was wrapping the horse up a bit much.

Whatever my opinion is, it doesn't really matter. It just gives me a level of personal satisfaction to make the call early and cross my fingers that I have pulled the right cord. I recall saying exactly the same thing re Plastered after watching him trial. I thought he was toying with them as well.

But it is easy to be wrong. Honestly I wish I had bought or found the horse, he is what I consider a career defining choice for any buyer to have made.

Well spoken! And of course we all do for WA racing hope he becomes our next superstar and that we don't have any tall poppy syndrome. We need another good one to put our state back in the headlines as I seem to think that we are heading down a bit of a rough patch trying to keep up with Vic and NSW who jsut seem to be miles above the pack.

Damo, you also said that taking Scenic Shot east was akin to an all expenses paid junket.

Yes and gladly I was proven wrong. I had the highest opinion of Scenic Blast, but I honestly thought Scenic Shot wasn't Gr 1 quality. So very pleased to be wrong.

I have tried to rectify the statement by assisting Dan with anything he requires in photography or referrals to make up for my statements of the past.

I will ask the horse tomorrow and see if he thinks he is good enough. Got a nice day trip planned to see a Magnus, Snitzel, Flying Spur, Rock Of Gibraltar and some already proven stock.

A big thank you to Northam Race Club, in particular Manager Nicole Bell and her Staff and Committee, for the access afforded me on Northam Toyota Stakes Day. I hope you all enjoy the images of the day from around the track. Can I also thanks the RWWA Stewards and Starter, Terry Bell and his outstanding barrier attendant staff, for welcoming me for a close up view of how they operate.
I look forward to July 5th, when we will be back for the My Atacanta sponsored day of racing on an 8 race card.
