    Carlton = Overrated

    dont think you watched the game at all to make that comment

    3 injuries within first 10minutes would cripple any team

    As I said a few weeks ago, it'll take 4-6 weeks to get a handle on which teams are really going to make it all the way to September.

    Carlton may have just had an off day and vice versa Essendon may just have had a better day.

    GC didn't play up to the level they did last week. (yet Essendon franked the form OR did they? Wednesday at the G will be interesting for both them and Collingwood)

    GWS played amazingly to hold Adelaide to only a modest win. (Think the handicap is going to continue to drop against GWS)

    My tipping this week looks horrible, hoping today for Geelong, Kangas and WB - to atleast give me a half decent round!
  • Gold Coast played well and should have been winning until 2 critical injuries

    Injuries will dictate a lot of games with the bench situation and the amount of running teams do these days

    They had more in side 50s the Hawks ,more hard ball gets ,but i agree the dropping the knees in the tackle is wrong that little weed S cott Selwood is a master at it its basically ducking your head into a tackle simple really but good luck to them that they get away with it im tipping the umps going fwd will be watching now ,Healy mentioned it on The Couch a few weeks ago
  • The West Coast Ducks are simply ruining AFL football

    sad thing is given there free kick tally (in the +40 after 4 games) other teams are going to copy them

    the AFL needs to do something about it otherwise the game will turn into a shambles

    All sports are a result driven industry people don't care how you win as long as you win, Footy like most major sports around the world (which have been like this for a long time) are now becoming heavily focused on defense and scores will be getting lower and lower and any opportunity to get an advantage will be taken especially when contests are becoming tighter and tighter. The head high tackles will see everyone now start to shrug there shoulders and drop there knees to initiate the contact just the Selwood boys are the masters of it and Ashton Hams is that small the only place you can tackle him is around the head :lol:

    The AFL won't do anything about it because the Head has now become a no go zone so expect to see a lot more of it whether it's cheating the system or not it is what it is

    They are playing within the rules many other
    Sides have been doing this for a long time (Geelong)

    "The West Coast Ducks are simply ruining AFL football "

    Don't comment too much on footy as although I enjoy it, not as passionate about it as some but fair crack Cav - that is an over the top statement if I have ever heard one.

    It seems to me that the umps are letting all players have a little more time in trying to get rid of the ball in an attempt to keep the ball moving. At the same time, the intensity of tackles, has increased 10 fold over the past few years.

    Perhaps what frustrates many is that illegal tackles are penalised almost all of the time yet fantastic tackles are not awarded to the same extent.

    Interesting thing is - the rule changes (and interpretation of) are designed to protect the head.
    Yet in an effort to take advantage of such rules, players are actually putting their head in the way more.
    You could possibly suggest players are then actually taking more knocks to the head as a consequence of the changes designed to stop just that............

    At some point then - yes, they need to penalise (or stop rewarding) players who do as such, or just throw the rules out altogether

    15.4.5 Prohibited Contact and Payment of Free Kick
    (h) trips or attempts to trip an opposition Player, whether
    by the use of hand, arm, foot or leg;

    So I found this rule - does anyone know where on the leg a trip is a trip and not a trip? Is it below the knee or lower or higher?

    Out 2-3 weeks...

    GOLD COAST captain Gary Ablett hopes to be back in action within a fortnight after injuring his knee against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night.

    Ablett injured his knee when he collided with Lions tagger Andrew Raines, but said scans had allayed fears of a serious injury.

    "Great result, nothing serious, doc thinks 2-3 weeks but I'm confident I can get back earlier!'' he posted on his Twitter account yesterday. "Thanks for your support!''

    Almost certain it is below the knee.

    Agree here, sounded like sour grapes.

    Any views on the Lindsay Thomas incident. I actually think it should have been deemed accidental. I am of the opinion that the ankle broke before the contact, and the ensuing contact then made the break worse. Watch the slow mo replay, I think it clearly shows the ankle collapses before impact.

    Horrific injury, hope its not career ending.

    He has a history of ankle problems also HB so not looking good for the kid unfortunately.

    Interesting to note Rusty that BC hasn't bothered to mention that the team ranked second for most free kicks received from head high tackles happens to be the Dorkers !!!
