Sportsbet:
ROCKET MAN: $2.50
LUCKY NINE: $15

There aren't many bigger RM fans than me but this is just staggering, LN beat RM by 5+ lengths in December, since then RM has had a few ordinary barrier trials and put in his usual dominant local win, LN took 2 races to get back to form and a win.

While your there shop around the the best odds you can get on AMBITIOUS DRAGON in the duty Free ($6+).

I won't pretend to follow the international scene at all but i'm very excited. Have watched a lot of his wins and it seems that he's only got a short, yet very powerful sprint. He wins when he finds the right spot but if he gets too far back where he peaks on his run then he can get beaten. $6 seems big odds for a such an exciting horse however.

I don't like rocketman from that gate. I bet they will try and box seat on him and i just don't think hes a horse that can race at this level not dictating.

Rocket Man is superfit. And ready.

He was overraced, internationally, had insufficient breaks between the 2
big races - and suffered tremendous stress that time. Greedy owner I
thought. RM returned with blood in his trachea in his last big race.

The horse is good and ready, and barrier 1 is his favorite stall.

The only worry is the fickle jockey, Coetzee. He blew it the last time he
partnered RM in Japan. At 50, he looks like a guy with limited strength
to control this extraordinary power puller RM. I noticed while RM returned
not blowing, the jock was like panting till his tongue touched the turf

Its a pity this RM team wants to make it an all South Africa affair, trainer,
jockey, syce, owner... when thehorse is Australian  .
Makes no sense not to employ 27 yo superstar Joa Moreira to ride RM.
    Very silly thinking.

Rocket Man can easily beat Lucky Nine, no problem there.

ROCKET MAN's best would carry LUCKY NINE, no question.

He was flat as a biscuit in Japan, no jockey would have got him home that day. And forget the excuses about the barrier in HK, he wouldn't have got near them. He's returned with a few average barrier trials and and ok win.

I couldnt back him with your money at that price, LUCKY NINE at 15's was like I said staggering! Best you can get at the moment is about $8, still value but not what it was.

I'll be as happy as anyone if the champ wins but I have serious doubts he can...

I share your opinion, and worry for this coming race, because it appears
RM is developing stamina instead of speed. Maybe abit of distance like
1600 would suit him going forward.

Right from the beginning, I always thought RM is a comparatively small
but talented animal, and would be better over middle distances.

RM has a natural turn of foot, and he will do well if allowed to trail the field
early instead of fighting for the lead early. His trainer needs to
reprogram the horse's training, and allow it to change his racing habit to
suit a longer distance race. However, it would take a very strong
jockey to restrain this powerful horse.

Anyone knows where Rocket Man was bred (stud farm) in Australia?
  • I think Rockets best is behind him. Will be lucky to run a place

I am sure P Shaw will take that on board

Rocket Man ran well from a 'long' lay off . :D :D :D He will win the next international sprint 2012 - and give Black Caviar a sound beating?.

    Here's the race video

    http://racing.hkjc.com/racing/video/play.asp?type=replay-full&date=20120331&no=s0103&lang=eng

Watch how he put his head down and charge after the winner the second
he was passed. He wasnt tiring, its just that at 6 its harder to outsprint a
4 year old champion sprinter from GB. This can be expected.

(Was the old jock tiring in the arms? No vigor left in the legs to scrub?)

Gutsy fella this horse, like most Aussies? Oui Oui Oui
