I used to think Carey was being a jerk with his bagging of WA racing. It has dawned on me that he's a realist.

By the response to this sorry saga (among countless other things), seems apathy rules. Collectively we are satisfied with mediocre.

Racing in this state will be exactly the same in 20 years time . . .

No Fearless, it was a whinge at some of the stupid things that have been said about the protest and in particular some of the idiotic texts and phone calls I have rec'd.

I have no qualms about opinions on the protest, I can understand both sides of the equation but over the past week I have been abused on a few occasions for not having a comment about the protest when I have been quite happy to have my opinion, right or wrong.

I had a text on Thursday calling me a stupid cunt with no idea about racing. I don't think I am that stupid, I may be that anatomical lesion.

I have been sleeping with the stewards according to one message rec'd. Please I am past my best and struggle in that capacity even with my partner let alone turning to the other side which has no appeal.

They don't worry me but I feel sorry for the poor souls who cannot understand that we can all have an opinion. Just because I may sit on the side of the stewards on this occasion does it mean I don't have an opinion.

I never agreed with the Dawn Raider protest and I let it be known on radio but my opinion was just that. An opinion which wasn't going to alter the decision made. The stewards have a job to do and I respect them for it.

    Hi Wes,
Not to piss in your pocket, but those individuals who harass you are scum. It's that simple. That is a gutless act.
I make sure that what I write is what I would say to that individual face to face. I'm quite sure some people on this forum hide being their keyboard.
That's a blight on their character.
I'm not a small lad, and you could easily push me out of a marking competition, so I'm quite sure they wouldn't say it to your face.
Im not trying to sound righteous, but we should appreciate other peoples opinion, even if it goes against your own.
After all, and Damien as said it a few times, it's only a race.

Damien's photos are interesting but I wouldn't describe them as anywhere near conclusive. They certainly do not fit into the category of 'new evidence'. Whether the Stewards made the correct decision or not, everyone is just going to have to live with it--nothing can, or will, be done to change it

well you must be more polite than the other adults and school children on this site, i never realised you thought i was a dickhead.

to be fair i would bag wa because that was the only place i looked for myself.
i'm sure other places stuff up too.

the main difference though between other places and wa, is that they respond to criticism.
rwwa doesn't, and imo it is simply a boys club run for themselves, rather than the best interests of racing in wa.

25 pages on this thread alone, the subject of radio airtime here in Perth, mentioned in passing on TVN, it is fair to say that this edition of the Railway Stakes has had more coverage than many in the past.

It is a pity that Wes has been subjected to personal abuse. I am sure it would have been a different outcome had he been the jockey that caused the interference, but as a commentator I don't quite see the connection that would motivate someone to text him with a mouthful.

As for the image of him sleeping with the Stewards, that is too much to contemplate this early in the morning.

agree or disagree....by this stage most are polarised on this protest...
best outcome is that the stewards learn something from this episode. Also lets not forget ...they are human,so whether you think they were right or wrong

THINK ITS TIME TO MOVE ON.

    Lets stop being GIRLIE MEN

That's the problem rot. They won't. In defence, not sure what change would be made in this instance (when the culprit is just being plain bad judges  ).

But with all the other rubbish; incorrect distances, London Court/Jolanta Sky, Mendicity dh 3rd, being clueless about race tempos etc etc - to the punter (appearance is everything) it appears not one change has been made to any of the relevant processes. Or even examined. Or in some cases even acknowledged.

Pretty darn hard for improvement to occur when you don't even try . . . .

agree Ds...Im still not happy about some decisions going back a fair while,,but you would hope that due to the reaction on this.....the penny may drop for the powers that be.

Not sure about the forum having gone way off track. Most people in this thread have constructed their arguments well.

Its a huge thing, a contentious protest in a million dollar race. Forums are for discussing the issues. I expect this thread will go on for a bit longer yet, but at some point, we're all going to have to accept the umpire's decision, tuck the bat under the arm, and make the long walk back to the pavillion. Umpires dont always get it right....which is why we love to hate them, but at the end of the day, its just a sport.

I am angry. I cannot get my head around those gutless, faceless ba$tards sending Wes abusive texts and emails.
I sincerely hope they are not the "regulars"...I think not, they would be those lurking like hyenas in the shadows, salivating and dashing in like curs to bay and run back to their dens.
I do not normally advocate "name and shame", but if it is at all possible to trace these vermin they should be made public...very public in BOLD print.

Wes, you can open my PM..and maybe have a laugh.

Yep agreed, extremely poor form. SuburbanPunk is one of the most informed posters on here in my opinion.

Obviously experienced in the game, makes his point without resorting to name calling, complete with an occassional dash of old fashioned sarcasm.

I for one look forward to hearing his thoughts, whether I agree with them or not.

    A great thread.
It shows how many Passionate people there are, if the Racing loses that passion then it's in trouble.

Thanks to all for the comments on my photo's, makes the hours of carrying a ladder around a little more worthwhile. If you are so inclined, I am running a poll on my facebook page to try and get some direct feedback on what people enjoy the most. Here is the link to my page, it only takes one moment.
