I fancy Burin in the 2nd. I can't remember if/when Staeck has ridden for Durrant. Have a sqizz at the owners..they are great fans on Daniel.
You gotta keep your eye on things like this...
  • your eyes might need checking, last Wednesday Crosselle

RACE 2 is the most interesting race of the day

on paper you would think there is plenty of speed

    however

HAWKEYE MORT has blinkers off and would be a big chance to be ridden back given what I just read on CRIS altho still trying to work out what a rear WAD is?

SMART TWISTER is the only other leader but now has a new trainer who may have other ides on how it should be ridden

Smart the best bet of the day $7.00
Great tip but you took way unders

    Was a great ride.

Reckon Ive stepped on a Chinaman. Was on Proud Hero and earlier in the day, thought Pattie Me Lass was a bit stiff. Good luck with the remainder.

I got a few quid on Black Moment..that 8 length win got me...
I hate to say this but after the Derby I said IJ would never win another race. Sadly, that prediction seems true.
It is a classic case of to the well once too often....I'd say she would be off to the breeding barn.
KKK...up to a mile only..pulled its head off...
  • Does anyone know if there has been a change in the rules about setting a reasonable tempo in races? Thought odonnell may have been questioned - tactics certainly didn't help his horse

What do we read into the Dayana being the quickest 2000m of the day?

I know the strickland stakes was slower tempo, but the oaks was almost 3 sec slower than the Dayana?

    Interesting....

    my thoughts

    1. The Strickland was run at a farcial tempo - none of the Jockeys showed any nouse. KKK and BE over-raced most of the race. GHS was the only horse who managed to settle. The tactics aboard IJ were terrible and contributed to her poor performance.

    2. The Dayana was a good race run at a solid tempo = the first 5 or so horses across the line all have good racing careers ahead of them.

    3. The Strickland was run at a very slow tempo but this was because the leaders aren't very good and lack staying ability. The winner and the 4th horse have some potential. Sweet Serenity may have had some excuses but should have done better and IMO probably not a stayer - at best a miler.

one more thing to add to the strickland post mortem.....

all of us thought that if the pace was slow (like it was), Dasher would take off and fix that. His choice not to, and sit three wide on Kawatiri, really changed the outcome of the race.

Good Point Diva on Dasher was something a miss with IJ she gave it away quick i couldnt find anything in the stewards report i hope she is ok for the boys sake great horse

Sweet Serenity might even just be a sprinter - she's been able to compete at these longer trips on class alone

I think Grand Nirvana can be forgiven for his performance in running third in the Hyperion. With the farcial lack of pace suiting KKK and Impressive Jeuney down to the ground-sure was different tempo to yesterday!. Makes you wonder why GN wasn't sitting outside IJ? You know she is never going to run along so parking to her outside is the perfect possie IMO.

I can't recall the last time they reprimanded, let alone suspended anyone for slowing the tempo for that matter, yet it happens every meet.
