I continue to find it hard to understand how winning a mid-week Ascot race is not classed as a metropolitan win. Shady Bet wins a NMW last week and gets into another NMW race this week. Not only that but gets in carrying only 1/2 kilo more.

    Hmmmm...............Interesting.
Because its win was definately a metro - RBH: METRO - 2YO NMW (+1.5) 55+
  • I queried a similar race a few weeks ago and found it was a Provincial A - looks like its changed and the handicapper has been left red faced by accepting SHADY BET

    strange??

Just found out that a mid-week race worth less than $18k to the winner is not classed as a metro race. But in saying that, it is not classed as a provincial race either. Maybe instead of metro they can be called 'mepro'. The middle of both classes. Think there may need to be some tinkering with the classes to get the confusion sorted. :?
  • is this another recent change - gee its hard to follow all these handicapping rules at times

perth midweek had always been classified as non metro as far as eligibility is concerned.
if that is still the case i have no idea, and apparently mr hunter does not either.
i am seeing examples of races that are supposedly unscaled that don't match the template, so that is a fair indication that rwwa handicappers have not only confused the public and licensed persons, but themselves too!

one problem is the geniuses from the handicapping department have only one template for metro and provincial 1 standard.
    it's idiotic in the extreme.
not to mention the template has obviously been changed since the august 2010 one on cris.
So much for transparency and openness.

so now i am wondering if a horse can win more than 2, 3YO 1MW races at the midweeks. any takers??

McCallum looks very hard to beat in the jockey challenge today. If $2.00 or better is posted then I'm all over him. Only danger for mine is if Harvey decides to have a day out - he's been a bit erratic lately but he has 4 strong rides.

McCallum $1.65 on NSW TAB. He's short but ironically still looks good value.
