While in the last 15 years other states were planning ahead for tracks , WA were sleeping and watching the world go by .
We have two inner city tracks within 10 mins of eachother which are hardly of world class standard , we have a massive training complex at larkhill which is not used for racing and now we are going to poor millions of dollars into bunbury where the track will relatively stay the same with a few bits of tinkering .
We have sold mt helena , sold land opposite to ascot , redeveloped york which failed today , put a silly 1000 metre chute in at pinjarra , which instead would have been better suited with another turn like sandown , when is it all going to stop .
To sum it up our premier track is ascot and it has the worst last 600mts in history , where you run away from the turn then hook back into a 295 meter strait and the wonder why no one wants to come here .

i agree wholeheartedly. we need a flemington or at the very least a caulfield, in terms of track size, length of straight. no moonee valleys (great atmosphere granted) with the short straight, corners everywhere. i am biased but grew up at trentham, nz. 2000 metre circumference, straight about 450 long, very wide track, every runner gets a chance. that is the correct dimension of a racecourse.

pinjarra is chasing a second turn which will make the straight 550 - 600m long

i reckon that would be great, everything gets a chance, not running around a saucer.

    Funny not many replies .
The plain truth is our track situation is the worst in the country .

It was a good post and I reckon that almost everyone who read your post would have to agree. The state of our tracks is a disgrace and the latest in a long line of debacles was at York. Ascot is a joke and suits only a very specific and often weak type of racehorse. The exception is Belmont Park which is perhaps the best winter track in Australia --- so lets sell it :?:

You forgot that white elephant inside track at northam  and you have hit the nail on the head ,millions wasted on so called upgrades and Pinjarra will never be a winter track , there has been water in the drainage ditches until recently and how long since it rained? my vote is make Larkhill a metro track and stop wasting money on what if's and what might be's

Forget flemington. Sandown is the best track

IMO flemington is quite poorly designed. Everything is spread out and it doesn't really cater for punters. THat said, yes the track plays well, you rarely see a bias there.

I work at pinj track and i can assure you that we could race through winter without a hitch, we put the sprinklers on for no more than 5 minutes and the drains are running, the retic water that drains off the track runs into those drains. If anything racing through winter would be a lot easier for us because as you can probably see on the tv the track struggles to hold the water therefore leaving dry patches >.<

    Yep

Happy Valley is tighter than Ascot, yet Prebble, Whyte, Delouze, et al don't seem to have many problems getting held up for runs.....
