Was stunned when watching the after race interview , when Wes said to Bob Peters , great ride by Shaun Meeres and that he delivered a job as good as Pike would have , Bob replied i don't think so , he would not have gone as early.
Well am i watching a different race , what did Bob think he was at flemington and Shaun had to wait for the clock tower , he was at ascot with a short run home and rather than wait for the 3 wide line who were moving up to box him in and then hope for a gap down the strait , Shaun , knowing he was cruising eased him out and waltzed away with a convincing win .
And by the time the interview finished there was still no praise for Shaun Meeres .

shauns ride was first class, couldnt have done one single thing better. to get to the box seat from that gate and go when he did was perfect timing. great stuff paps and exactly what my account wanted to see :)

It was a pretty staggering comment thats for sure. A really brilliant ride by Shaun under enormous pressure replacing Pike and on a hot pot in a big race. Congratulations Papsy but judging from the mean spirited comments I wouldnt be waiting for a big sling!

To be Honest, anyone could have ridden Dreamaway yesterday, only needed someone to sit on her and she won, still only class him as a bush jockey.

OH is that so glamour i can only assume that to make a cockhead statement like that you must surely be related to b pts or you just have know racing nounce at all the fact is given the same rides that the city click get week in week out you would find he is equal to anyof them .by the way thanks for constructive previous posts guys just ashame peters cant recognise a very smart ride when he sees one . i also know that had willie rode her he would of rode her further back which may not have produced the same result any way LUCKS A FORTUNE aint it SHAUN great ride cheers.

there might be a reason he isn't given the same rides that the city boys get week in week out.

It was a gem of a ride, but it was a steer job thats for sure

Anyway it's not about Shauns riding ability , the point being was that in the interview Bob gave him ZERO credit and had the audacity to say he went too early , and then went on to say we had no luck , two bad barriers and we lost our jockey , well maybe he could have turned it into a positive by saying luck came our way with Shaun jumping on and giving him a great ride .
    Pathetic !!!!
  • It's hard to see Mid Week showing the same sense of urgency Meeres showed in the 1st 200m of the race,

Just watched the race again , Dreamaway followed Shine The Light in running and when Shaun Meeres pulled out on Dreamaway he had no choice as Shine The Light started to cave in and finished last !!! .
So i suggest the owner and we know who he is go and have a good look at the replay , and wake up .

Piston you have NFI again ,its hard to see Midweek showing the same urgency ?? Dreamaway drew the outside in its last 2 before Sat and he fired it straigh out the gates in the box seat PB go watch the last 2 wins then comment

What else would you expect from the owner, he thinks it's all about him anyway.
This is someone who changes his trainers every 6 months when they get sick of dealing with him.
Not too many owners get interviewed by Wes after a win, however he always seems to be able to get in there.
He was probably playing down the ride so he didn't have to sling him, or think he owes him a ride in the future.

Remember everyone, Bob Peters is just an investor not a horseman. He wouldn't know the front end from the back end of a horse nor would he know the difficulty and quick decision making needed when in running by a jockey. So a comment like that which is so low wouldn't suprise me. After a black type win, why so that to the public? even if one was to think that, why would you verbally backlash a jockey with such high respect in the racing community.

As for Paps, he is the leading country and provincial jockey in the state and therefore he is making a fortune just travelling around WA riding winners. He can ride in town no problems and would do very well if a metro stable took him under their wing. However, he stays loyal to the country trainers and owners and his results speak for themself. Great ride Paps!!!

bit of an overreaction all of this. Just watched the interview......was laughing when he said it. I dont think he was having a go at meeresy really.

I think its a real shame when people cant give credit when it is due.Shaun Meeres regardless of horses ability rode a 10/10 race when a lot of people thought he wouldnt be up to it.I dont know Shaun personally but i have no doubt of his riding ability from watching and also the pleasure of seeing him win on a couple that i have shares in.Give Shaun the books of rides that our so called better riders get-he would be one of our states leading riders. To the people who rate him as a bush or provincial jockey at best-you are showing that you have no idea what you are talking about and perhaps should make comments only about something that you have an idea on.

Well said Michael. I had the pleasure of few words with Shaun at the Bubury Stakes, he's a modest & affable guy, deserves all the success he gets.
  • didn't think Bob was unkind at all, just didn't give any praise, Just what has been Shauns best season in the city?

The old saying, big fish in a little pond or a little fish in a big pond works with Meeres

there are no big ponds in wa pb, just small, smaller and tiny. 8)
in the 'city' and i use the term loosely, it would be difficult considering nearly all his rides have been for bush trainers on horses that have had no hope.
give ph the same rides and watch what would happen to him.

Glad Shaun won, he deserves it. ]

I don't care if he was smiling what a disgraceful effort , all he did was whinge about his bad luck at having 2 wide barriers and loosing his jockey .
Why don't he take all his horses to melbourne and be a small fish in a big pond.

Altern8vu,henley brook and michael harding you hit the nail on the head thank you very much and if bob was smart he would have put shaun on rafferty on sunday at bunbury .

A bit of praise and thanks would have been nice for Meeres. Would love to know what Bob thought of Pike's effort on New Image. If he hadn't of waited for Harvey to get up to him he would have been getting interviewed again. Wes should have reminded him about that ride. Meeres rode the perfect race. Well done!!! Probably the reason we got such a good price.

id say pikey was looking for a bucket around the home turn. If he had gastro, im surprised he was even sitting upright.

hi guys DTB he was asked to ride it unfortunatly as is his LOYALTY he stuck with bob mcphs horse peters ask him after drawys win . but perhaps with the benefit of hindsight iam pleased he couldnt ride it i have no doubt the way it went he probably would have won on it which BEGS the question would he have made the same CRASS coments about hallys ride up against the way pikey would of ridden it I DONT THINK SO by the way M/H shaun is a HOME GROWN ESPERANCE boy .by the way P B you pose the question what has shaun done in town with very limited oportunaties quiet well considering most of his racing was done in victoria up against the best of them. as stated in other posts he is loyale to those who are to him and will travel any where to ride unlike some in town.cheers

Agreed, he just said Pike may have ridden it differently

Maybe the wrong horse won the race

If you look at the calender there aren't that many fillies races let alone listed fillies races over the course of a calender year
