Cant find any info on Black Knight. This tough WA stayer owned by Robert Holmes O'Court and trained by George Hanlon won the Melbourne Cup in 1984. Anyone know how many career starts he had and how many wins and placings and how many Group/Listed races he won. I only know of his Melbourne Cup win. How much prizemoney did he win.

    Melb Cup was his only Stakes Race win.

    He also won the Benalla Cup en route to his Melbourne Cup, won the Benalla Cup a month or so before his Cup win. I think nowdays the Benalla Cup is a Listed race? or maybe a Group 3, not sure? but at the time when Black Knight won it - it wasn't a stakes race.

    I think Black Knight is one of a few horses to win the Melbourne Cup without having won a stakes race prior to thier Melbourne Cup wins.

    Ok thanks Della. I was told by a friend that he did win two Lords Mayors Plates at Flemington 2000m in 1983, wheather they were Group or Listed at the time I dont know and if the Lords Mayors Plate at Flemington still exists but has a different name im not sure as well.

    thanks della i just though t of that one as it was on the weekend....yes there are many diiferent type of black type races, v good della ...many in perth are only 75k

    started his career with roy edwards.When he finished his racing and comeback wa stud he was stabled at ted mcualife ascot stables were robert would come out and ride him around little sandown.
