Perth Racing Dot Com Race Replays

Had a bit of spare time and thought I would do the replays from Albany last Thursday, and surprise, surprise, they are not up yet.

How hard is it to provide a professional service these days?

Yet another example of only worrying about Perth. I liked it alot more when it was The Western Australian Turf Club.

    I really do not think anybody knows whats going on....it needs a bloody good shake up. It reeks of cronyism & old boys club mentality, lets hope the new blood on the committee starts to show some teeth.

    Not sure if this is true but allegedly the entertainment over Railway Stakes and Winterbottom Stakes was skywards of $120,000.

    Heard that the visiting jocks cost over 100k...which would be about right, business class fares, accomodation, all meals, expenses, trips to rotto, golf etc. Easy to knock up 100g

    Update: They have added the meeting to the calendar, which is an improvement, just no replays as yet..... getting closer, bit of luck might have them up before the next meeting.
    Is this Marty Young's department? What does he actually do to justify his job?

    just to clarify a fact, perth racing have to wait for the video to be sent to them before they can post it. I remember asking them about an Albany meeting once and was told that the club still hadnt sent them the disc to load up.
    Ive said it before and I'll say it again, go try getting the replays from provincial NSW or Victoria a day or two after the races.....actually, try getting them at all. Some of you just dont know how good you have it.

    You can easily download race replays from Darwin for free. Not sure how long it takes for them to come online but my point is- it's free.

    I think the website needs an overhaul. I use it alot and love getting the videos all in one place. I pay my 200 bucks a year and would definitely like better service...so many gaps with missing races and trials.... I would just scrap that pathetic preview show and use the money and time to improve the members only area of the site.

    NZ racing has free videos as well. I don't mind paying but if you do fork out $ you want a good service.
    I'm with bigpond and there's heaps of NSW/Victorian replays available there free of charge.
    We have it better than many but not as good as some. The idea is to strive to get better, not to say "but we're better than x,y and z".

    The punter is apparently the 'backbone' of the racing industry, in that a percentage of the turnover from the punters money pays for a majority of racings expenditure. ie- stakemoney.
    So the punter should be appreciated by the industry? :huh:
    The punter has a few expenses thereself!
    To go to the races and pay to get in.
    Then to buy pretty crappy on course food at exhorbitant prices.
    Then to buy drinks at exhorbitant prices.
    You can sort of accept that to a degree, as its part of the show.

    My beef is the fee they charge to watch videos.
    IMHO, it should be free.
    A courtesy to the punter.
    Anyone know the figures for how many members there are that pay for the video service compared to how many punters there are?
    Why not give something back to the punter is what im saying!!
    After all, isnt it the punters turnover money that pays for the website?
    Or am i off the mark here?
    Just think the videos should be a service open to all in this day and age.
    More information and help for the punter would lead to more punting and more turnover would it not?

    My beef is that the people who run the service, Perth Racing, don't give a big enough sh*t about the country aspect of their service, because if they did, they would ensure that the Country replays and TRIALS, are posted in an efficient and timely manner.

    "We can't put it up yet because Albany haven't sent it to us yet"

    I wouldn't accept that excuse from my 8 year old.

    Perth Racing are the parent, use some authority..... well they would if they cared enough.

    I don't have enough spare time to do form for Perth or the provincial meetings, too many factors to take into consideration. I stick to the country circuit where the form pool is smaller and less time consuming. A $15 winner at Esperance still pays thye same as a $15 winner at Ascot, it's just easier to find. I just wish that the controlling body had the same care factor for the country venues as it does for the city and provincials.

    Perth Racing has no responsibility to show Albany races

    Without knowing for sure you would have to think that the provincial and country clubs get some sort of payment for providing the vids

    Really? I would have thought the race clubs would be happy to provide the vision in order to stimulate interest in their product.

    I think Perth Racing actually runs there website at a loss despite the memberships

    So aren't you contradicting yourself? If they are making a loss there would be no profit for Albany to share in.

    I think we can all agree it is in everyone's best interests that as many people as possible have access to the replays. Hopefully moving forward the people who are in a position to make things happen can get the job done.

    I was chasing a replay from Esperance last year that was over a week and not posted, so I rang to check why. The answer was, the Stewards had not dropped off the DVD, so I'm guessing they use the copy they bring back for their use. (I could be wrong though)

    I want them to run at a profit. I reckon if they were super quick getting vids up and had no missing videos ---and added new stuff to the site that punters wanted and needed then they would increase subscriptions and increase profit. I have emailled then and got a positive response about one particular innovation in the new year.

    they physically drop off the dvd because the stewards pick it up from the race club after the meeting and are "supposed to" bring it back to headquarters the next day to be loaded up. What happens is it sits in someones case for a day or two before it gets handed over, which its not supposed to obviously. Causes much frustration to PR that the simple task is made difficult.

    I known this is a long shot but surely the race clubs have internet? Could they not upload it to a server for PR to then download?!?!?

    I know what you mean, but the files are massive I would think?
    If you need to see a replay pretty instantly, you can get them on skychannel.com.au but you need to have a victab account.

    I'm guessing about 150Mb for an entire meeting. How long would that take to upload?

    Wow, imagine being able to see a replay of a race whenever you want. We can only dream of such futuristic technology...and to think it only costs $43 billion :roll:
