Should be aimed at the Guineas. Worry about winning that first!

I know Oratorio has had some good runners but on % of mares he's had there aren't big numbers running. No way on god's earth at this stage of his career is he worth the stud fee.Blackfriars actually was a little quiet until [funny enough] this subject came up on the forum and now his runners are showing up in numbers every meet and his last couple of years hasn't had very big numbers.....maybe just better quality.

agree cc he is regularly producing good runners and will be around longer than oratorio , he certainly has much better fertility stats also.

This battle is seemingly won. Blackfriars is again ranked in the top 25 Stallions of the current season, 21st on the current rankings. Oratorio has slipped outside the top 50.

Blackfriars had an increase in his coverings this year, 153 up from 138. Oratorio on the other hand slipped below the century with 83, down from 111 the previous season.

Which means in 2 years time there will be a lot more Blackfriars to choose from and more competition for the Oratorio's :D

I think I understand what you are trying to say, but whilst a Blackfriars yearling will average $60,000 this upcoming sale, Oratorio's will be closer to $45,000 in my humble opinion. As Blackfriars shows now sign of slowing down in his winners on the track, his sales ring price is just going to go higher again, irrespective of the number of them offered for sale in Perth.

Bear in mind that Blackfriars has been at Stud for an additional four years, but he has produced over three times as many stakes winners for approx three times as many stakes wins.

Oratorio standing his seventh season at Stud, has seen 50 more mares than Blackfriars did at that same stage. So the pressure is really on Oratorio to produce higher quality yearlings.

Well hopefully BF keeps it up, because we've got a stable full of them, literally.

Feel free to ping me if you share the love...... :)
