What will be the likely leader/s in this race? Tempo, either genuine or lack of could have a major impact on certain horses who may still be a query at 2400M. I'm not convinced Gyno is a genuine stayer (2400m+). Many a 3yo has been able to win a Derby on class (as often happens in the VRC renewal) but been found wanting when put up against stayers in a race run at a solid clip.

Surprised at the amout of Daka's votes - won the race last year but didn't think it was going as well as the other two this year

Watch the replay of the Kingston Town and watch El Pres and Daka's again. Considering El Presidente laid in and took it's running in the straight in the Kingston Town and then the horse crossed the back of EP, upped it another gear and flew home, Daka's Gem is a major chance tomorrow and proven at the journey against this class of horses, whereas the likes of New Spice and Guyno have a bit to prove as been discussed above.

Imagine that finishing burst over the 2400m!

Look at the distance Daka's Gem was from the winner of the Fruit & Veg last year (3.5 lengths) and this year he was only 2.75 lengths from the winner after the laying in, in the straight, his run was full of merit!

I will be having some money on him tomorrow!

    Selections: 1.Daka's Gem / 8. New Spice / 7. Guyno / 2. Cat's Fun

Interesting to see no-one has given Cats Fun much chance here, winning form is good form, and not many here go into the race with winning form... just a thought...

    In any Order...

Cats Fun, Gunyo, New Spice, Dakas Gem, Westerly Breeze...

$30 1/2 unit triffy should get the money here...  :D :D

New Spice & Guyno to quinella the race..... Still find it hard to split the two...... Gonna put Westerly Breeze in for third as a bit of a roughie........ Was only 3 lengths off the winner in the Kingston, has drawn well with 55.5kg....... Cats Fun for 4th and Dakas Gem for 5th :D

Only reason im leaving Cat's fun out as a winning chance is because he hasn't started since winning the Tatt's Cup.......

i really like cats fun. has had a perfect prep for the cup and even though he might be a tad underdone today he cant be that far off his peak. has specifically been given space between his runs and that how he performs best

Im a Luskin Dancer fan. Just grows a leg when placed over 2000+ and the first to last run in Towton Cup was a beauty. Tough field though and many chances IMO.

Again Valas did that horse no favours.. When is this big boy gonna get some luck in running.. Was a mighty run... Had him straight out but covered my ass backing Westerly Breeze for a place........

Spot on Elitist. The trainer, just like the horse, goes pretty good and has given the horse a perfect prep. Next the group classed Cat's Fun will take care of the mid-weeker Pentempo

    J Valas

What a terrible, terrible ride. 3 wide the whole way drifts back to last and lets Guyno go around her and then gets going again.

    What was she thinking.

Would have gone very close I feel.

Trust me i was pulling my hair out during most of that race watching her on that horse.... Thought she had a bit more of an idea....

All the talk by Jess Valas was that she was going to be "very agressive" on New Spice...... I would hate to see her riding passively. There comes a time when the blame has to start going to the owner/trainer for continuing to put her on. If this horse goes to a good trainer for an Eastern States campaign he will will big races!! Still very untapped.

Will be going to an eastern states trainer not yet decided but possibly Sheila Laxon

Oh okay, another female trainer..... Hopefully she has a bit more sense :?

New Spice still managed to run the equal second fastest last 600, (equal with Westerly Breeze who was motoring home) with the run he had over the 2,400m... He's gone from 9th at the 800 to 11th at the turn, to run home as well as he did into 6th place.....
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Both New Spice and Guyno weren't the best of rides. Seemed to be a lack of speed in this race given they were able to run home in pretty quick last 600m. Guyno for mine was a very good run and looks like a horse that will be suited in Melbourne in some good handicap or WFA races.

Also interesting to note that Pentempo ran a 2.27.35 on Dec 1st and they clocked a 2.30.56 in the Cox.

Great ride by Oli and a very good win by Cats Fun. Who was it that said Catbirds were duds?
  • bartfargbartfarg    667 posts
Michael Grant got Cats Fun flying. Great win and back to a handicap on 1st Jan, should be a worthy favourite for the cup.
  • ChrisChris    5,697 posts
To date he has 1 Group 1 winner and 1 Group 2 winner (2 if you include Cat's Fun)

In his first 100 runners, he had 1 stakes winner and now has a 3% stakes winners to runners ratio, useless sire.

Cat's Fun is talented, but if he's the best he's thrown nation-wide I'd be worried.
  • RelampagoRelampago    279 posts
If you took the Triffy i posted on here none of you would be talking from Stung Pockets!!!

The more you put on the more you get back!!!!

    Valas = Useless

Jockeys aren't that loyal, they will jump onto the next best thing at any chance, so why have the owners/trainer given her so many chances...
