Watching the start, KY put her hand on the barrier fractionally before the gates opened. There is no way this could have been seen by the starter. I would not have been surprised if it was declared a starter.

We had a horse run 2nd at a country meeting a few years ago. We ran 2nd at 12/1. The 4th horse protested against us and it was dismissed. But during the hearing it was noted that the outside 2 barriers, where we had come from, were slower to open than the rest of the barriers. We were given the option of being declared a non-starter. But seeing we were on the 12/1 e/w and had a cheque for running 2nd we obviously declined.

What if Don't Park had run 3rd? Isn't there a rule where you can't be declared a non-runner if you place? Tough for the straight-out backers but I suppose if you label one for the place and it runs 2nd after being denied a fair start, you'd be filthy if it were scratched.
I believe that the horse should only be scratched from the relevant pools. If it runs a minor placing, scratch it from the win pool, quaddy pool etc but not from the place pool.
Also, it should remain in its placing for form and prizemoney purposes. It is an anomaly that you can pick up a formguide and there will be no reference to the run, just as if it had stayed at home in its stable. That is wrong.

there was a Group 2 in Melbourne several years ago when a horse ran 3rd and declared a late scratching due to similar circumstances

the prizemoney for 3rd was atleast $10,000 maybe more - the owners protested but where never compensated

I could be wrong Della but I think that might have been the case that resulted in changing the rules so that placegetters were no longer declared non runners.

it certainly is, but the cris csv file has it in last place, but still has the margin and time it ran, so that is certainly much better than happens elsewhere.
