Whipping horses head seen on SkyWest Australian Racing

I'm a bit shocked at what i just saw on Sky.... Dan Staeck was just shown in the barriers hitting Fasescape about the head with his whip. it looked like it was being a mongrel which is probably why he was doing it but seriously with the focus on whip rules the way they are, surely this is not on.

 Something to note- immediately after he gave it another whack, it reared and ended up getting scratched.

Indeed there was, thanks FM...I only read the bit tacked on to the race results on CRIS...cheers for that. Horse has been retired....appears to have some ability but obviously very troublesome.

Didn't a jockey get a reprimand 6 or 7 years ago for punching a horse at the barriers during a mid week? Stinking hot Day and it was refusing to load. Made Inside Cover of the West Australian (back when McGlue was a journo) under the headline Blazing Saddles.
