    O.K.
I'm backing one horse on Saturday. When I was doing the form on Wednesday, I thought the horse would be 3/1 or better.

I see in the early markets that it's $2.40.

Being the son of a bookie, it goes against the grain in a big way for me to back a favourite, but I really think this horse will win.

So Punta, I would like $70 win and $89 place on race 2 number 3 Properantes.

3 starts at the distance for 2 wins and a third, One start track and distance for a win and handles all conditions just in case you have a sudden downpour in Perth.

I've decided to go the each way because we won't lose too much if it runs a drum.

I look forward to receiving the usual generosity so admirably displayed towards the punters club by Punta.

    Geez great minds think alike!
I am going all out on Palace Intruder boys at those odds!Career low weight and looked good to the line last start.
Good luck lads as I will thro yours in to my tri as well!

$89 places at around $1.50 or so, hardly seems worth it in my opinion...

excuse my ignorance as its been that long *cough cough* but what are the rules in winning/collecting to enable the punter gets to bet again the following week? double your stake or return that amount spent or....?

wouldn't you be better off finding another one you like at each way odds and have a stab at that? or take an all up place with Properantes to place with 1 or 2 other good things to run a drum and try get $2+ for your return

just a thought, I know you'll take it onboard as constructive criticism BL

Sometimes hash it is just having a saver for the club. He expects it to win, but reduces the loss for the club if it gets pipped at the line. He's had 2 positive weeks.... He could've put 159 places on. Got a return for the club and passed the baton to the next person.
    Smart club punting IMO

i'd rather lose $89 and go out with a bang knowing I had a fair crack at trying to get a decent return, but I see your point, returning something is better than winning nothing.. a bit like my quaddie investments :)>-

    Thank you Diva.

As Hash says, very generous of you.

Here is how I look at it.

If it doesn't win but runs the drum we get $124.60 back. So the loss is only $34.00 and next weeks punters still have a reasonable bank to bet with.

As I said in a previous post, it's OUR money, not just mine. At the moment I have about $45.00 of it. I don't know if we have decided on an end date, or if we are just going to keep going.

But either way, and I stress that this is just MY opinion, I reckon we should be doing all we can to achieve a profit each week.

Of course it's up to the individual whose in the drivers seat to bet how they wish to bet.

This going out with a bang crap isn't for me.

Sorry if I offend anyone by saying that. I'd actually like to finish with something when it is finally decided to end this. Mine will go into my Punta account and I will continue the never ending battle. Or if there isn't much in it, I'll give it to the Salvos.

But the thought of slaughtering $1,500 doesn't sit well with me.

My thoughts are that if we can get a return each week, and we stay viable, someone, one week, will back a 40/1 chance that they either like or have some mail about and 6 grand will fall into the kitty.

But if we slaughter the money so that we can "go out with a bang" I reckon that's wrong.

That's just my way of thinking about this Hash.

It all comes back to a pro punter mate of mine who has survived, very well at the caper for more than 40 years.

His favourite saying was, you have to make sure stay in the game.

By way of an example, he said to me many years ago now, how many times have you had a $200 bank to put on a horse you thought was a certainty on Saturday, but didn't have the patience to wait, and bet on Wednesday and knock off your bank, only to be broke on Saturday and watch your good thing romp home at 10/1.

I was too embarrassed to answer.

the horse you backed for us last start, dark musket is it not worth having a saver on that or do you not bet like that (backing more than one horse in a race) ;)
