A pretty good assessment there Chelsea. I do rate Lou and Dion Luciani right up there with 2 year olds and Trevor Andrews would be the closest of close 2nds behind Simon for 3 year olds. It's not easy judging trainers of 2 and 3 year old horses though when you take into account that some of them have more success than others of actually getting them to a race track due to Shin soreness, maturity and development times, etc...

I dont strongly disagree with the list on any of them Chelsea, but i sit here and look at the list and say where is NDP??? maybe i'd slip him in to the all rounder role that you have for Justin Warwick....But as stated i wouldn't say to definitely replace JW

Have to agree re. NDP - very good overall, but hard to put him in one of those areas exclusively.

Obviously on strike rate he doesn't compare to some of those listed - but some of those listed wouldn't take on some of the cattle NDP does.  So it's easier to have a high strike rate if you only take the best cattle!

He's starting to find some form again with the likes of Operational, Ihtsahymn and Northpace among others. Operational should win again on Saturday and the other two are good each way hopes for sure. He has an inform jockey on board a lot of them too in 'Diamond Dan'.

Would be interesting to take the question back 10, 20 and 30 years to see how long names stay at the top.

that would make them the best 3 or 4 y/o trainer. The best 2 y/o trainer has to be the person who wins races with 2 y/o's

In my opinion  the best 2yo trainer in W.A. was Bob Burns. His record was outstanding but because he rushed them early not many went on. Kieth Moxham was his jockey at the time until he went to Singapore.

    kevin williams wasn't bad either.

On second thought, reckon NDP, could certainly get his own category - "older horses"

Just a few that I recall over the last five or so years:
    Beyond Dispute - won as 10yo (123 starts - retired as 11yo)
    Caller One - won as 9yo (101 starts - retired as 10yo)
    Euclassy Thing - won as 9yo (92 starts - retired as 10yo)
Call Me Henry - won as 9yo (83 starts - finished career up north)
Prince of Vasac - won as 8yo (85 starts - finished career down south)
Secret Enigma - won as 8yo (68 starts - still going)

Any relation to Andy Burns from up Moora who also trained? Andy was my great uncle. I can't remember a Bob but there was at least 7 siblings

Roy Edwards was clearly the best 2yo trainer in WA.and to exclude Fred Kersley from that original list is sacrilegious.

none like the old boys of yesteryear, jock campbell, reg treffone, eddie spencer, ted mcauliffe, hugh jamieson, aub mitchell and a host of others.

those guys were horsemen and boy, did they know how to train a horse....and how to pull of a plunge. no pre-post or corporates in those days, just an effing strong betting ring.

Yesteryear's champs did it all without walkers, swimming pools, etc etc.Horsemen of the old school. Ted Sullivan had Kilrickle win a Railway (albeit on protest) over 1600m and then a week later, he runs 2nd in the Perth Cup (3200m). A good nostalgia thread would be "first uppers" - no trials, no publicity followed by a good old fashioned "go" in the ring and SP shops. Went on a "collect" one day in my uncle's FJ Holden - I was pretty young -  to loads of SP locations after the races to pick up what seemed to me was a small fortune after a successful go. Sticks in my mind with a shoebox (literally) full of cash (pounds) on my mum's lap.
