only comment is that they should move this race away from Bunbury by at least a week or it will be increasingly irrelevant in the future

The quality of the field has suffered being too close to the South West Breeders Plate. Perth Racing should work more closely with regional clubs so that both races could have maximum quality fields instead of what we have at present.

So you're suggesting the WA Derby should be shifted (this being a lead up race) to fit Bunbury's Breeders Plate ?

Get them to work together is what i am saying. Anyway the Derby this year will be ordinary.

Tete have you been forgeting to take your medication again? :P

There won't be a clash next year, the reason for the clash is because Easter (when the Derby is run) is early this year.

Seems such a long time ago that we had the best Derby in Australia.

I suppose at the end of the day, RWWA either supports the need for Bunbury to run such a good race for 3yr olds, ensuring it fits in the schedule in the best possible manner or, the club simply concentrates on ensuring the best possible return for the bread and butter races it puts on each week.

I think it adds greatly to Stakes Day so would like to see it continue but I don't train em so have no idea what should happen in regards to preparing horses for the Derby.

Do you think there is a chance of 16 decent horses that can run out the distance this year ? I don't think so.

With such a weak Derby i'm surprised you don't have several of yours aiming towards it?

    Bridgestone
    God Has Spoken
    Sir Hallowell ?
    Morant
    Brother Mak
    Ranger
    Zentrate
    Impressive Jueney
    Le Plunge
    Fromm

Some pretty "ordinary" horses in that lot.....

I dont have a distance 3yo this year. I do think you could cut that list in half if you were serious.

bred to run a distance, but not really what we breed in WA. A lot want to but with races being downgraded in distance across the board last year, a lot of breeders seem to want to focus on the Oratorio's, Due Sasso's etc

no you take advantage of recent stallion serves won at Mt Barker and breed to a horse that will throw everything from 1400M to 3200M

yes it was the truth, we gave up on her ever getting a city win. Ken Nightingale didnt however and it remains one of those things that we will never know about her. But we move on.

So have I ever had a good one. Short answer is no.

Do I own a couple that might go alright ? I'll let you know.

I will tell what annoyed me with Tetes comments. His remarks that the current crop of 3yos are not worthy of being Derby contenders, and that because we probably won't get a full 16 horse field in the Derby, we should be rushing to breed to 'My Atacanta'.
    Get real my friend.
This next great hope My Atacanta was a midweek Belmont winner if my memory serves me well. I am just waiting for the next bit of spin. Maybe--- trainer states that ' In his opinion the horse would of been a definate group winner had injury not curtailed his career'.
Come on Tete, stop bagging the current crop of 3 yos that many have labelled as the best crop for many years, just to push your own barrow.
Mate Plastered won the 2004 VRC Derby against 9 starters, getting small fields at Derby level is nothing new.
