MEDIA RELEASE

Thoroughbred – Update Stewards Inquiry – Trainer Shane Edwards

Further to the RWWA Stewards media release of 18 February 2013 in relation to the export to Singapore, transfer of ownership and bonafides of these activities in relation to a number of horses formerly trained by Mr Shane Edwards the Stewards advise as follows.

Following an interview conducted with Mr Shane Edwards in Kuala Lumpur on 22 February 2013, and further investigations, a report and documentary evidence was issued to Stewards by RWWA Principal Investigator Mr. P O’Reilly.

Accordingly the Stewards are now opening an inquiry into the report of RWWA Principal Investigator in relation to the export of horses from Western Australia to Singapore by trainer Mr Shane Edwards between 2008 and 2013.

An inquiry date of 13 May 2013 has been tentatively scheduled pending confirmation by Mr Edwards as to his attendance.

In view of the seriousness and extent of the matter and from the aspect of the image and welfare of the industry, the Stewards have invoked the provisions of Local Rule 10 and have directed that Mr Edwards trainer’s licence be suspended forthwith pending the outcome of the inquiry or until otherwise directed by the Stewards. Further that no horses owned or part-owned be permitted to start in an event. Accordingly the clearance of his licence has been revoked and the relevant Principal Racing Authorities have been advised in relation to this direction.

couldn't imagine the investigation/hearings continuing unless they had something substantial.

also on here somewhere i think someone said that he had moved on all his horses..

Whatever, it looks like he knew this was coming, and so did the people around him. From Feb to now is a fair time to get your stuff sorted if you know the type of questions and information the stewards have..

    From the West:

·RWWA stewards will hear an argument from Shane Edwards' legal counsel today to persuade them to lift a suspension of the trainer's licence.

The Selangor Racing stewards agreed to an application from Edwards to let him continue to train at Kuala Lumpur on Saturday until stewards here made their decision on today's application.

RWWA stewards banned Edwards last month following an investigation into allegations he illegally exported horses to Singapore and Malaysia from 2008 to 2013.

Falc difference is Shane hasnt been rubbed out yet. G Ryan trained in KL for quite some time when his license was taken from him, I know the blokes who were riding them in Malaysia loved it, they knew as soon as they got on whether they were switched on or switched off, but there is not many blokes with his ability anywhere

on another matter, 2 ex Perth horses set to win in Msia very soon. Fumio and Terada both sold to Msia, reason for selling is to hard to believe. Previous owner wasnt happy with paying training fees in WA?

I think one of two options:

    1. RWWA is waiting to see how long it will take to "go away"

    2. the GMRI is still working on his 3 page soliloquy of why it has taken this long to get nowhere.

option  #3 obviously doesn't appeal to them

    ie address the issue.
