And was m84 before winning last start - isnt the minimum penalty 4 points?
Bet a tenor it's changed within an hour
A while ago I earmarked this as the race to get on, and while the barrier isnt ideal, I think hes ready to show his best. I thought the run in the KT had merit, with the second quickest sectional behind Ranger, who got a great inside run. Will be interested to see the price, I am expecting at least 11-1. Hopefully he can be withing striking distance at the corner instead of out the back looking for the short cuts.
There's one I like for the cup, but if it wins the CB Cox it may get cruicified by the handicapper

I thought horses that win at weight-for-age can't get more weight? It's a bit like if a horse wins the Mackinnon Stakes enroute to the Melbourne Cup - it can't get more weight for the Melbourne Cup.
I wouldnt have thought the Cox Stakes winner would get more weight for the Perth Cup as the Cox Stakes is a weight-for-age race.
Jezabeel.
Ok so if for example: weights are already out for the Perth Cup and a horse has 53kg in the Perth Cup, and comes out and wins the Cox Stakes at weight-for-age - then that horse can't be re-handicapped?
I think im on the right track now.
So I guess thats why Mackinnon winners dont get re-handicapped for the Melbourne Cup..........because weights for the Melbourne Cup are already out. But if for example weights for the Melbourne Cup were not out and a horse wins the Mackinnon - then that horse could be re-handicapped.
Jezabeel.
Spot on Jezabeel, your on the right track now. That's why Cox stakes winners can be re-handicapped simply because PC weights are not out yet.
Also remembering that it is up to the handicapper if a horse gets a penalty or not, and if a horse does get a penalty it's up to the handicapper how much more weight a horse gets.
Cheers,
PC.
They are able to tinker with the weights at acceptances these days yeah? Toppie (Ranger) will come out, meaning the other two cerise and white up top (LR and BE) will steal a kilo or more from the minimum weighted runners (most of field) unless the spread is adjusted (instead of the whole field just going up to ensure minimum topweight, like they used to)

Staecky has been out of the saddle for a few months, first week back from injury. I think Reed has played the better percentages by getting a top class rider who is fully fit.
Williams, McEvoy, Rawiller etc have proven time and time again that they can come over and win the big races.
D Dunn is a class act. Trevor has also taken the opportunity to book him on another runner, which has paid off over the carnival for him.
Elusive Image [scorn saxon form from yesterday looks good ]
Maschino LOAD UP I SAY

if you listen to Wes it has less chance because favorites get rolled in small fields by the roughie
could be the lay of the day
CRIS says All Friared Up has bar shoes on front. Also, today's paper confirms this (story in The West).
However, Stan Bates states on the radio that All Friared UP will definitely not wear bar shoes.
