Iv'e gone from a regular footy follower to barely watching this year, you cannot have teams getting belted by 90 points in a quarter, three teams having byes, games decided on interchange infringements FFS. Too much tampering with our great game

Gee, we are never short of meaningless news article links about the Tigers and Freo from TP and Funk, but nothing about real football issues like West Coasts 2nd Rising Star Nom in 6 weeks, well overdue JD.

Slipped to pick 26 for a reason. Not the type of "person" that most fotball clubs want to recruit. But a persons character has never bothered West Coast b4

Why because he got a HJ from some chick at a school camp and got king hit from behind while out and about?

That was part of it, he also had injuries last year playing senior football and was double teamed during the champs so form was not as good as when he was AA U18 CHF in his junior year.

Luckily for you guys you have heaps of key forward options in Anthony, Bradley and Peter Mann to build some premiership success on and could afford to overlook him...

If you're a docker, you shouldn't be ridiculing any other clubs draft history.

Where have I ever mentioned who I support ?

In that same period Fremantles 20's picks have been far better so yes put that down as a ridicule.

    Fyfe
    Ballantyne
    Suban
    Ibbotson
Munday couple of duds Hinkley, Campbell.

Check out Freo's draft picks 2006 worse batch ever.

Exactly my point about Weagles not using their later picks.
I think we used approx 73 to draft Barlow (after rookie listing). Broughton 79 and i'm confident Mzungu will prove to be another gem drafted with an extremely low draft pick.
I reckon Freo would have turned over at least 30 players in the 4 drafts that Harvey has been at the reins.
I see that Taylor Walker was picked by Adelaide with the very last selection (75) of the 2007 draft  8)

    Stop talking sh1t.

The draft is littered with success stories of players taken with late picks, but for every success story there is a much bigger number of players that never play 20 games, and the % of these unsuccessful players were taken in the later rounds.

You have named Broughton, Barlow, Mzungu etc who are all mature age players so that is a different kettle of fish, yes these are good picks, but you also have Lower, Faulks, Anthony etc that are players who are not good enough to play in a premiership side, so you may be building a team that is good but will never be good enough to win premierships.

Our three best players at the minute are Cox, Lecras and Kerr.

Cox was taken as a rookie, Lecras at pick 57 and Kerr at 18 or perhaps 20 something off the top of my head.

Yes we have been opting out of the draft early which I believe is a good thing, our squad is still very young and built from the better end of the draft. The draft is not a science, but in the last 10 years has become more so, and less likely to throw up spuds in the top 10 picks than previous decades, due to the professionalism and resources available to recruitment depts.

We are building our list from the draft, you seem to be mixing and matching as of late with mature picks because you know your window will end once Pav and Sandi drop off, so you are trying to fill in the holes the quick way.

We will see which club has the right of it, and this will only be answered with a premiership.

I think the needle is stuck on Occy's record player.
Yes record player, because Occy still lives in the past! Except when he is dillusional about the quality of WC's list

I agree with Occy on this, it will all come down to who wins a premiership next and only then will you be able to assess how good the draft selections were and im predicting it won't happen for either team for quiet a while!

Well who would u say is best placed to challenge the Pies :?:
    There certainly not unbeatable.
In my unbiased opinion I would say in no particular order; Cats, Dons & Freo

I don't think you would be any chance to beat the Pies away, and they will only improve over the next few years.

If we do manage to build a team that will challenge in a few years time hopefully the Pies reign will be coming to a head.

They don't have any real weaknesses to exploit, a quality midfield, quality backline and now with the two big key forwards they have the structure to kick plenty of goals.

    I can see them winning 3 in a row...in a canter.
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
Everyone is beatable it's the nature of sport the best team doesn't always win but I would say cats and hawks not convinced about the dons everyone getting a bit too excited about them this early into the season not genuine contenders for mine. Freo need a top 4 finish to be even considered a chance and then anything can happen, finish top 2 and will go close to making a gf for sure but not convinced when it's on the line that they have it to go all the way and I'm not just saying that as an eagles supporter it's just what I believe. This is certainly the best period of finals footy they will have for the next few years but that final hurdle I'm not convinced I don't think there forward structure is potent enough to win a gf but just my opinion I'm not an eagles supporter who is interested in all the crap you guys get into with occy it's all a bit boring but each to there own :D
