Good read Diva .. only one sentence re wagering, and its right the powers to be are not enthused regarding the wagering aspect.  . What is the image of horse racing.. Wagering...I dont care about different jockey styles etc . I want a level playing field which means no kick backs etc.and not rounding down divs and increasing percentages take outs.. .  They think bringing odds and evens  will create turnover and stating 107 percent take out.when you add the roond outs its more like 112..They are  making a mockery of racing where we spend hours doing the form and pricing and trying to get overs. I think that it is insulting the punter....imo...

The use of available cameras is pretty average. Occasionally you get overhead camera as they jump then it is just camera from the broadcast the rest of the race. TV's are that big these days surely you can split that up a bit and have a bit more going on than just the 1st 4 in running in giant graphics at the bottom of the screen. I think the jockey cam stuff they use occasionally is awesome but why can you only ever view that in replay. Imagine watching the feature race on the weekend you are on the favorite it looks to be held up at the 800m so in the split screen  in the corner they cut to jockey cam and yep you can see they held up and looking to try and push out but the jock on the outside is keeping em boxed in. gopros and drones cost nothing these days and could bring so much more by way of viewing.

Agree 100% with article above by Stephen Brassel on Racenet. Hit the nail on the head.

When more younger price/odds savvy punter's come through the game with a greater understanding of %s than the old skool punter had...they'll leave racing ( betting ) behind in droves...sports betting with its far more favourable % in the punter's favour will continue as it is now...growing in leaps and bounds, it's unstoppable. The turnover now is amazing and increasing all the time.

Many punter's who were betting 90% on the horses and 10% on sports, that balance is now tilting more and more in the other direction.

Sports Betting will continue to take the world by storm - Racing/tote betting will spiral backwards if their not careful.

Pleased to see Stephen Brassel mention something I've harped on about enough times...rounding down of dividends.
Also have noticed the % corporate's now betting ( due to their increased costs ) have worsened.
Competition between tote/corps/on course bookmaker should never have been better - instead it's being railroaded and taking the punter's with it.

Riders the three codes are rapidly losing favour with the punters. There doesn't seem to be any control over the wrong doers  .

Just from the fact book sportsbetting  96-97  216,000 ----- latest figures  2017-18    11,200,000

    harness+greyhound                            96-97  2,740;000,----latest figures  2017-18     4,909,905

The codes should take a leaf outta hong kong how they run regards integrity.

These take out rates are akin to 'killing the goose laying the golden eggs.' The odds on offer feel more in line with what you would find at Crown with everything stacked in favor of the house. Personally it's made betting on horse racing less attractive for me. It's ok when you fancy something outside the top 4 in the market but if you like something say 3rd or 4th favorite the odds on offer aren't usually worth punting on.

When TABtouch rolled out the super pick it was actually good. Since this punters tax came in your lucky to get 10-20c extra on a boosted place bet and $50c-$1 on a win bet. At the start it actually encouraged me to bet a little more but now i barely use them. The only one i will use is money back if you run 2nd but that's come down to $25 (was $50)

My betting has turned more towards betting on the EPL. Getting 3-4 teams like City, Liverpool.. putting them together at odds around $1.30 each and you have a chance at a decent result.

I reckon they have got it the wrong way round in the last at Belmont. I thought Meltme ran second, seems not. Even thought the nose is obscured it still looks like Meltme got the nose in front looking at the ears etc. I wonder if there is a reverse camera angle?

No point cuddling a horse when you fire out of the gates to lead. He got caught late by the king of 'patient' rides. Would he ride his dad's horse like that? I doubt it.

That article is spot on and is probably worthy of a thread of its own.
POT will kill the industry as punters move to different markets (away from racing). its already happening and will continue to happen.

That article above is very good from Dean Evans - even in the comments section - a fellow been betting for 60 years on the horses ( that's a loyal customer ) now shifting his betting to sports...who wants to bet on horse racing with market % equillvent of a $1.65 v $1.65 in a 2 horse race. Big fields that differential still applies - it's just better disguised.

A two horse race ( it happens occasionally ) on the tote...look at the dividends on the two runners - it's excruciatingly bad...high takeout and rounding dividends down.

Bookmakers % and markets are becoming woeful - due mostly to all the excessive taxing - and the punter is paying through the nose.

They are not going to bet $1.65 v $1.65 North Melbourne v Hawthorn this week...why should punter's accept those odds on horse racing ?

If not careful ( and it's already happening ) decent punter's will go the same way as the evening newspaper, polio and the do-do bird - to the oblivion or sports betting.

The big days will always be successful - but recall saying 25 years ago - what racing really wants is all tote betting and empty grandstands.

25 years on - not all tote betting - but bookies on track have declined in numbers - now Corporate's and Tabs betting 125 -150% markets when they jump away.

Noticed a little while ago - Corp odds getting worse - their hands are tied, it's got so bad lately with market % that the tote is starting to look good - their must be a problem - perhaps empty grand stands and all tote betting is closer to the mark. POT is killing the bookie side of it.

If you want mostly tote betting then what should be in place but they can't cut through the red tape despite Tabcorps monopoly...
National Tote Pool - win and place take out 10%.
All other betting trifecta's etc 15%.

It's wall to wall racing - lower the take out rate. Competition between all parties should never have been better for the punter - instead it's never been worse.

The article above by that guy is spot on.
