With rain and overcast conditions set off on Boxing Day for the first time in about 20 years to Pinjarra, was somewhat different to what i remember, that’s not being critical, was a happy and festive family crowd, whereas as recall when was mostly a betting crowd, a circle of lawn that once saw 10 - 12 bookmakers plying their trade was now taken up by families and friends.

The ladies working the tote were very pleasant and was easy enough to get a bet on. Sadly on course bookmakers though have gone the same way as the evening newspaper, never to return. Mores the pity, does take something away from a day at the track.

By about race 3 the clouds began to dissipate and cool sunny blue skies returned, and the Pinjarra grass was in the same immaculate condition as remembered.

A good highlight was the comfortable Cafe area and seeing photos on the wall of the 1990’s Pinjarra feature race winners and their respective jockeys - a name that featured regularly either winning or being in the placings was Troy Jackman - also great to see names like Laurie Millington, Jeff Berry, Stephen Miller, David Catarino, Peter Barnett, Bluey Lambie, John Claite and several others.

One Pinjarra Cup photo 1991 or 92 won by Cambridge Lad the winning hoops in order were Troy Jackman - Shaun O’Donnell - Laurie Millington and the 3 place getters in what looked a blanket finish carried between 50kgs and 52kgs. O’Donnell still riding there today thats longevity.

Jeff Berry was good to see his name again, recall him riding a long shot at Pinjarra decades ago was either first up or second up in a big field of 16, it’s name was Sinners Garden - don’t think ever reached any great heights or any heights at all, was looking for a couple of rough ones to back a place - and liked “Chuck” Berry and thought maybe this Sinners Garden at around 40/1 might run a drum, was clutching at straws, a guy next to me as the jockeys mounted up politely called out any chance Jeff and the reply was pretty straight forward and to the point “no mate no chance.”

Had been around racetracks long enough by then and when heard that thought perhaps it is a hope! On the back of an excellent ride he got it into second or third.

Even though today was a lack lustre meeting quality wise, was an enjoyable day run in nice cool conditions the 2 young blokes who did the mounting yard presentation and interviewed the hoops after they won couldn’t fault them. They had a job to do and did it well. As the winning jockeys after the interview walked close to the mounting yard fence was easy to give them a “well done” and after backing the card did that 8 times - i wish - dream on!!!

Finally that was the first time ever been to a race, trot or greyhound meeting where apart from the jockeys and trainers did not see one single face i knew. Time marches on.

Last week at Pinjarra was Holly Nottle and Holly Watson who rode all four legs of the main quaddie and today whilst not quite repeating that effort the lady jockeys with Lucy Warwick joining the party got three out of four legs around the decent odds of 7/1 16/1 and 5/1 combined with Silver Eye 12/1 Shaun O’Donnell for a decent dividend of just under 10k.

Warwick often rides Silver Eye but may have chosen Cashel Palace instead ?

The final race on the card their were 6 female jockeys and 5 male, the girls ran 1,2,3 for a trifecta dividend of $481.70

Mentioned similar before but ask me many moons ago would their ever be a approximate 50% male and female hoops quotient in the final race of the day at Ascot on a Saturday - be good if it did but no won’t happen, it happened. No harm in being wrong sometimes. Probably most of my life!

One hoop been observing for awhile on country tracks and occasional rides in the city is Natasha Faithful - if she’s not a Saturday class jockey I’ve never seen one. Maybe prefers riding in the country however and that’s fair enough.

OK from the get go I just want to ask how many people had trouble even finding the 7Plus chanel? Are there any ratings? Can we find out how many viewers watch 7Plus coverage of WA racing? And how much is it costing RWWA or Whoever is paying for it? That said How Old is the Format Already for the 7Plus WA raceday coverage? I have a friend that watched for 1 hour recently and they became bored with the same continuous 4 advertisers about stud farms or agistment venues and Not 1 of them had a tree in a paddock? Plenty of trees Around the paddocks None in the paddocks?? Horses swishing tails and shaking heads from fly invasion! And the 7Plus Poorly produced Lame Stories about some lucky or luckless racing game person, is this TV Entertainment or just an extension of Post race Interviews where the participants firstly the trainer says something Condescending about the horse, he or she rarely even mention the horses name and somehow they have Miraculously solved All it's She or He's problems and got it to Run Fast. Then something patronising about the little person, like he's a good little rider this bloke or this girl and it gets even funnier when some Obese trainer who has never ridden a horse says they rode it Exactly to my instructions, Then the little person gets to say something complimentary or condescending about the horse then, similarly they also managed to tame this wild beast and make it run fast something No Other rider could have done LOL. I think you can see where this is heading How may Punters are hanging on Every Word??? My Guess NONE! So lets just see Vision of the horses walking around the mounting yard including their legs not just some half random shot while the genius tipster tells us every stat about about why they can or can't win, Let us punters just see a good wide shot like hong kong without any comments just a bit of light music and we'll do our own due diligence Because the genius's are tipping the Favorite in 85% of the races and Furthermore the genius's are religiously tipping 15% of the winners that's 2 out of 8. If the tipsters are that smart wouldn't they be backing Every winner making a fortune and Not Boring or Annoying the Crap out of real Punters? Let me know your thoughts Punters? on Perth Turf talk

Race 1: Jimmy Lemon Maiden (1100m)

We kick off with a competitive maiden where Nailed’em stands out as the one to beat. This 3-year-old chestnut gelding has only had one career start, and he made it count with a strong second-place finish right here at Albany over 1240m. He won a trial here recently with "authority," and with Tash Faithfull sticking aboard, he’s primed for a massive performance. Cosmic Gem is the obvious danger, now competing as a gelding for the first time.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) on Nailed’em at $3.00.

Horse

Comment

Nailed’em

Proved his mettle with a runner-up finish on debut; trial form is elite.

Cosmic Gem

Gelded since his last start; Shaun McGruddy is a key booking.

110% Framed Market: Nailed'em ($2.70), Cosmic Gem ($5.50), Cosmic Waltz ($6.50), Dark Opal ($7.00), American Que Tee ($21.00), Others ($20+).

Race 2: Celebrating The Life of Ray Oliver Maiden (1100m)

Longtimebeliever is knocking so hard on the door she’s about to break the hinges. She comes off two consecutive second-place finishes at Narrogin. She’s shown she can contest the lead and hold on. Lovin' On Me is the main threat, having finished second here last start when leading for most of the trip. She’s a "fifty-percenter" with two placings from four starts.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) on Longtimebeliever at $4.80.

Horse

Comment

Longtimebeliever

Exceptionally consistent of late with two narrow seconds.

Lovin' On Me

Led and fought gamely last start; suits this track.

110% Framed Market: Longtimebeliever ($4.20), Lovin' On Me ($4.20), Pariah's Thanks ($5.00), Reggio Calabria ($15.00), Ray's Sauce ($21.00), Others ($30+).

Race 3: Celebrating The Life of Jason Oliver Maiden (1500m)

The market has a crush on Southern Firetail, and it’s hard to argue with Willie Pike climbing aboard for the Durrant yard. While his debut sixth at Ascot doesn't scream "superstar," the drop from Metro to Country maiden company is a significant class advantage. Sea Of Galilee is the seasoned campaigner here, coming off three consecutive placings. He’s at peak fitness and loves the Albany air.

Note: Prove Me Wrong has been scratched.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) on Southern Firetail at $1.45.

Horse

Comment

Southern Firetail

Huge class drop from Ascot; Pike and Durrant are a lethal combo.

Sea Of Galilee

The form horse of the locals; has placed in 33% of starts.

110% Framed Market: Southern Firetail ($1.60), Sea Of Galilee ($5.00), Tango Rhythm ($8.00), Hope To Admire ($12.00), Others ($20+).

Race 4: Glen Simpson Handicap (1900m)

Why Me is the alpha in this distance test. He is a track specialist with three wins and a second from five starts at Albany. He won over this exact track and distance last start, showing he has the stamina to outlast this field. Mister Popcorn is the logical danger; he’s finished second in his last two outings at Albany and is arguably the most consistent stayer in the race.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) on Why Me at $2.70.

Horse

Comment

Why Me

Undefeated over this distance at this track; high-rated and in winning form.

Mister Popcorn

A model of consistency at Albany; will be in the finish again.

110% Framed Market: Why Me ($2.40), Mister Popcorn ($2.60), Beautiful Baroque ($6.00), Annihilator ($13.00), Others ($20+).

Race 5: Craig Wake Handicap (1600m)

We are siding with Polyvanova here. She’s a model of consistency at Albany and was only narrowly beaten over 1500m here last start. Crucially, Giaan O'Donnell's 2kg claim brings her effective weight down to 58kg, making her very well-weighted against this field. Amarlie Miss is the danger, dropping in class from a fifth-place finish at Ascot.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) on Polyvanova at $4.00.

Horse

Comment

Polyvanova

Track specialist who benefits immensely from the 2kg weight claim.

Amarlie Miss

Classy mare dropping back from a solid metro effort.

110% Framed Market: Polyvanova ($3.80), Amarlie Miss ($4.50), Niccy's Affair ($6.00), Kamikaze Fighter ($8.00), Others ($15+).

Race 6: Tabtouch Honouring Jockeys Handicap (1230m)

Questioneverything is the standout "fifty-percenter" here. In three career starts, he has a win and two seconds. He is undefeated at this track and distance and has shown a high-pressure cruising speed that breaks his rivals. Cruise To Rio is the veteran saver; she hit the line nicely for second last start and always performs well when the pace is on.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) on Questioneverything at $5.00.

Horse

Comment

Questioneverything

Perfect record of top-two finishes; local distance specialist.

Cruise To Rio

Experienced mare in good form; handles the 1230m well.

110% Framed Market: Questioneverything ($2.80), Cruise To Rio ($6.00), Our Existence ($8.00), Sanctions ($9.00), Others ($12+).

Race 7: Celebrating The Life of Frank Treen Handicap (1230m)

Fantaxtic is aptly named. He’s won his last two starts at Albany in impressive fashion. He’s a winner at this track and distance and seems to be thriving in this current preparation. Skytalker is a formidable opponent, possessing a great strike rate and coming off competitive runs in metro grade.

Note: Precast has been scratched.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) on Fantaxtic at $7.00.

Horse

Comment

Fantaxtic

On a winning hat-trick; loves the local conditions.

Skytalker

High-rated gelding with strong metro form references.

110% Framed Market: Skytalker ($3.50), Fantaxtic ($4.00), Diablo Lad ($6.50), Vomo Island ($8.00), Others ($15+).

A day on paper which looked to be a dominant one for Chris Parnham and Willy Pike instead turned out to be a very successful one for the the lady hoops who rode the final five winners on the card, beginning with Lucy Warwick in race 5 followed by Holly Watson and Holly Nottle sharing the next four winners.

In a sea sawing finish to the JC that was up for grabs all day it was Holly Nottle $21 who sealed victory in the lucky last. Takers of the short $1.91 quinella Parnham and Pike missed out completely when neither finished in the top 2.

Perth Racing has come along way since the “Powder Puff Derby” ( silly name even for back then ) 1200 metre races of the late 70’s early 80’s run at Ascot over the summer, maybe not every Saturday perhaps fortnightly or monthly they ran them, others would recall better was always first race of the day.

Back then if someone asked me if a female jockey would win a Melbourne Cup would’ve said no don’t think so, no not in my lifetime, but by the early 90’s the answer would’ve been yes definitely it’s just a matter of opportunity and time. Got two in the bank now and it’s only the beginning.

Looking back it also shows how good hoops like Paula Wagg, Linda Martin, Marilyn Fagin, Julie Mitchell and others were and a favourite down Albany Trenna Skinner, later on Alana Sansom was outstanding, others too they’d all do well today no doubt.

No surprise to see Lucy Warwick be successful comes from a family that’s been winning races whether trots or gallopers since 48 BC!

Trainer of the last winner and another one earlier Fred Kersley what a legend of the sport he is.

When hear of a Warwick, Kersley or Parnham begin riding you just know there’s a good chance they’re going to be pretty good.

Race 1: Westspeed Platinum Handicap (1200m)

With Leniency scratched, the map opens up significantly. Helluva Goddess looks the standout here. She has a win rate of 50% from 6 starts and is a genuine "fifty-percenter." She loves the Ascot 1200m and was superb winning here last start. Desert Dancing is the main danger; he’s been the bridesmaid in his last two starts at this track and is incredibly consistent (placed in 50% of career starts). He gets a 1.5kg weight advantage over my top pick, but class should prevail.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - Helluva Goddess ($3.60)

Selection

Danger

Comment

Helluva Goddess

Desert Dancing

Top pick has the winning habit; Danger is consistent but finding it hard to break through.

Framed Market (110%): Helluva Goddess $3.00, Desert Dancing $4.00, Define Beautiful $5.50, On Patrol $8.50, Others $15+

Race 2: Ascend Trophies Handicap (1000m)

The stats here are frankly offensive. Magnique has placed in 10 of her 13 career starts (77% place rate). That is the definition of a Scott-era bank builder. She was unlucky not to win last start after flying home from a hopeless position. Niccimota is the danger, especially with Chanel Cooper’s 2kg claim bringing her down to a very manageable 56kg.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) - Magnique ($4.40)

Selection

Danger

Comment

Magnique

Niccimota

Magnique's 77% place rate is elite; Niccimota is well-weighted with the claim.

Framed Market (110%): Magnique $3.50, Niccimota $4.00, Amaroo Star $5.00, Others $12+

Race 3: Magic Millions Plate (1000m)

Storm Away is the "fitness peak" play here. Third-up and coming off back-to-back wins, he’s found his groove. He overhauled his rivals with ease last start at this track/distance. Like Clockwork is the X-factor; she’s two-from-two and hasn't put a foot wrong, but this is a step up in grade. Our Naughty Secret is one for the multiples, as she’s been knocking on the door in Albany.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - Storm Away ($2.15)

Selection

Danger

Comment

Storm Away

Like Clockwork

Storm Away is at a fitness peak; Like Clockwork is unbeaten but untested at this level.

Framed Market (110%): Storm Away $2.00, Like Clockwork $4.50, Our Naughty Secret $9.00, Others $15+

Race 4: MCA Polytrack Handicap (1000m)

This is a high-quality sprint. Immortal Bliss returns to his favorite hunting ground. He has a 64% place rate and dominated a RON SAYERS last start. He carries 58kg but is a class above most of these. Black Ora is the danger, boasting a 78% place rate and a recent win at this track. However, Immortal Bliss has the superior peak ratings.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - Immortal Bliss ($2.60)

Selection

Danger

Comment

Immortal Bliss

Black Ora

Immortal Bliss is a class drop play; Black Ora is the inform "fifty-percenter."

Framed Market (110%): Immortal Bliss $2.30, Black Ora $4.00, Keep Ita Mystery $6.00, Others $10+

Race 5: Tabtouch Bet Loop Handicap (1200m)

Put down your drink and pay attention. Playin'it Sweet has 8 starts for 5 wins and 3 thirds. That is a 100% place rate. In the world of handicapping, that’s what we call a "lock." She’s dropping back from Listed company and looks weighted to win. Prospector's Pick is the only other horse I’d consider if you’re looking for a saver, as he was eye-catching last start.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) - Playin'it Sweet ($2.25)

Selection

Danger

Comment

Playin'it Sweet

Prospector's Pick

Playin'it Sweet is the day's statistical standout; Prospector's Pick is the closer.

Framed Market (110%): Playin'it Sweet $1.80, Prospector's Pick $5.00, Earthstorm $9.00, Others $20+

Race 6: Liquor Barons Handicap (1600m)

Territory Man looks the logical choice here. With only 4 starts under his belt, he’s already shown he belongs in this grade, winning well over 1400m last start. The step up to 1600m should suit his pedigree. Belta Of A Song is the value danger; she’s a gritty mare who reeled in the leaders last start at Bunbury and has a solid 55% place rate.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) - Territory Man ($2.50)

Selection

Danger

Comment

Territory Man

Belta Of A Song

Lightly raced and progressive; Belta Of A Song is the tough veteran danger.

Framed Market (110%): Territory Man $2.40, Belta Of A Song $6.00, My Harv $7.50, Others $12+

Race 1: MCMULLENS CANVAS MAIDEN (1600m)

This is a battle of the non-winners, but PUISSANCE PLAYBOY stands out as the one with the most progressive profile. Since arriving in Esperance, he has been knocking loudly on the door, specifically his last-start second where he led and was only nabbed late. Stepping up to the 1600m looks ideal now. The main danger is REIGN IN THE CASH, who motored home over 1400m recently. If he handles the step up in trip and doesn't lose it at the barriers (where he has a warning), he will be the one breathing down the Playboy's neck.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - PUISSANCE PLAYBOY ($2.80)

Selection

Strategy

Comment

PUISSANCE PLAYBOY

Top Pick

Peaking 4th-up, local specialist, ready for the mile.

REIGN IN THE CASH

Danger/Saver

Excellent sectionals last start; the obvious threat.

Assessed Market: Puissance Playboy $2.60, Reign In The Cash $4.00, She'Satrooper $7.50, Midsummer Romance $10.00, Others $15.00+.

Race 2: BW SCOTT CONTRACTING MAIDEN (1100m)

GOLDEN OPERA is the "fifty percenter" we look for, having placed in nearly half of her career starts. She has been incredibly frustrated of late, finishing a combined 1.5 lengths off the winner in her last two starts at this track. She gets a slight weight advantage as a 3yo filly and looks the winner. I HAD A DREAM is the perennial bridesmaid and the clear saver; he flew home late last start and will be the one the favorite has to hold off.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - GOLDEN OPERA ($3.20)

Selection

Strategy

Comment

GOLDEN OPERA

Top Pick

Claims a weight edge; local form is elite for this grade.

I HAD A DREAM

Danger/Saver

Always thereabouts; 10 placings from 20 starts says it all.

Assessed Market: Golden Opera $2.80, I Had A Dream $3.50, Tapitlikeit'ssassy $7.00, Samkerbam $12.00, Others $20.00+.

Race 3: CONDINGUP MACHINERY WRECKERS HANDICAP (1400m)

MIDNIGHT RUSH is in career-best form for David Page. He won here two starts back and backed it up with a very gutsy second over 1200m. The step back up to 1400m is his "sweet spot." MOUNTAIN ASH is the class horse of the race dropping back from a RTG 70+ where he finished a close third. He carries the big weight (59kg) but has the runs on the board to carry it.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) - MIDNIGHT RUSH ($2.40)

Selection

Strategy

Comment

MIDNIGHT RUSH

Top Pick

7-time winner with perfect track stats. He has won his last two starts at this exact setup in dominant fashion. While he rises in weight, he is currently "in the zone." RUPERT'S EMPIRE is the class threat; he's a 4-time winner who has been racing against much tougher cattle in Kalgoorlie. If the favorite falters under the weight, Rupert is the one.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - ROYAL ACCOLADE ($2.10)

Selection

Strategy

Comment

ROYAL ACCOLADE

Top Pick

Chasing a hat-trick; unbeaten at track/dist this prep.

RUPERT'S EMPIRE

Danger

Classy type; just needs to jump cleanly to challenge.

Assessed Market: Royal Accolade $2.00, Rupert'S Empire $4.50, The Lions Gate $7.00, Dublin Red $12.00, Others $20.00+.

Race 5: EMYJOR SERVICES HANDICAP (1200m)

HARLEQUIN PRANCER finally broke the maiden status last start with a convincing win. Often, these types "go on with it" once they learn how to win. She handles the 1200m well and stays at a competitive weight. DAINTY ROSE is the main danger, having also won her maiden here recently in high-rating fashion.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) - HARLEQUIN PRANCER ($4.00)

Selection

Strategy

Comment

HARLEQUIN PRANCER

Top Pick

Won well last start; looks capable of handling Class 1.

DAINTY ROSE

Danger

Strong win last time; alex Hearn sticks.

Assessed Market: Harlequin Prancer $3.80, Dainty Rose $4.20, Miss Weeni $5.50, Charcoal Chaos $9.00, Others $12.00+.

Race 6: KALGOORLIE MINER HANDICAP (1200m)

CELEBRITY PRINCE is the quality runner here. He has won over $180k in prizemoney and has performed at much higher levels than country RTG 70+. He has a good first-up record and looks well-placed. CRUNCHY NUT is the "Esperance King," with 3 wins at the track. He hasn't raced in nearly a year, but his track record is too good to ignore.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) - CELEBRITY PRINCE ($3.50)

Recommended Bomb: (0.5 Units) - FALSE STATEMENT ($15.00) - Veteran who won here two starts ago and loves the 1200m.

Selection

Strategy

Comment

CELEBRITY PRINCE

Top Pick

Class runner; if fit, he’s too good for these.

CRUNCHY NUT

Danger

Massive track stats; query is the long layoff.

Assessed Market: Celebrity Prince $3.20, Crunchy Nut $5.00, Paddy'S Flyin $6.50, False Statement $8.00, Others $12.00+.

Race 7: CLAAS HARVEST CENTRE HANDICAP (1600m)

TRUE CHANCE is a 5-time winner and a track specialist who is screaming for the mile. His last-start fourth over 1400m was the perfect pipe-opener for this. He's won twice over this distance at Esperance previously. WEST COAST WARRIOR is the clear danger; he's 3-from-8 at the track and loves a fight at the end of 1600m.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - TRUE CHANCE ($3.00)

Selection

Strategy

Comment

TRUE CHANCE

Top Pick

Perfect distance/track profile; elite second-up record.

WEST COAST WARRIOR

Danger

Honest as the day is long; loves the Esperance mile.

Assessed Market: True Chance $2.80, West Coast Warrior $3.50, Heavenbent $6.00, Vevinsky $10.00, Others $15.00+.

Hi everyone I’ve had a very good spell, have been reading the discussions from time to time and now back for a little while with terrible tips, racing trivia, and my ole favourite the jockeys challenge!

Will get straight into the fast approaching Perth Cup.

Moving away from the favourites for a moment and not knocking any of them - there’s 3 at odds don’t mind, in no particular order - the grey Admiration Express bit of a grinder now but think he’s slowly building and always had time for him.

Sentimental Hero run in the Railway was excellent, in the Northerly hmmmm pretty ordinary but was second up and might pay to forgive that run, has a very astute trainer, and won the Kalgoorlie Cup with a leg in the air.

Finally other roughy if asked a week or two ago would have said put a line straight through it - has no chance but now after watching a few replays of previous runs has been not too bad.

This guy might do a “Think Big” who went winless between his 2 Melbourne Cup victories - Hemlock Stone a chance to do the Perth Cup equivalent!

Anyway that’s 3 can now put a line through!

Bit of history one of the earliest Perth Cups went to was when the fantastic stayer Reckless ran - he had won the previous Sydney Cup, Adelaide Cup and Brisbane Cup ran favourite but unfortunately broke down in running, still ran third. Placed in the Melbourne Cup before coming here too. He was a champ. Trained by the legendary Tommy Woodcock.

The reason mention that Cup is because it’s hard to believe but the crowd number on that day peaked at just over 50,000!

Race 1: CROPLINE GROUP MAIDEN (1200m)

A tricky way to start the day. I Had A Dream is the professional maiden of the field with 19 starts, but he’s remarkably consistent with 9 placings. He maps to get the "box seat" run from the inside or move forward under Lisa Staples. He’s a "fifty percenter" in terms of career consistency, making him the safest play here. The danger is Throw Me A Kiss, who has been honest at Kalgoorlie and looks ready to peak third-up this prep.

Recommended Bet: Medium, 1.5 Units on I Had A Dream ($3.20 estimated).

Horse

Role

Comment

I Had A Dream

Selection

The class runner of the maidens; maps perfectly.

Throw Me A Kiss

Danger

Fitter for two runs back and handles the 1200m.

Framed Market: I Had A Dream $3.00, Throw Me A Kiss $4.50, Tapitlikeit'ssassy $7.00, Our Desperado $9.00, Others $12.00+

Race 2: EXPRESS YOURSELF PRINTING MAIDEN (1400m)

This looks a race in two between the South Australian visitor and the local improver. Zadows Landing comes from the David Page yard and brings strong form from Strathalbyn and Gawler. Dropping from those provincial circuits to an Esperance maiden is a significant class drop. He ran home strongly for second last start over 1500m and the 1400m here looks ideal. Puissance Playboy is the obvious threat; he was eye-catching running on late for second last start and looks the best of the local brigade.

Recommended Bet: High, 2 Units on Zadows Landing ($2.40 estimated).

Horse

Role

Comment

Zadows Landing

Selection

Clear class advantage; strong SA form translates well here.

Puissance Playboy

Danger

Big run last start; the main local hope.

Framed Market: Zadows Landing $2.20, Puissance Playboy $4.00, She'satrooper $6.50, Pancho's Place $10.00, Others $15.00+

Race 3: SWANS VETERINARY SERVICES HANDICAP (1400m)

Lacie Ace is the definition of a "fifty percenter" at this track, with a win and two seconds from nine starts here. She was agonizingly close in her last two outings, beaten by a combined 0.2 lengths. She is at peak fitness and Jefferson Tsang’s claim brings her into this very well at the weights. Biondo is the fresh blood on the scene from the McCallum yard; he hasn't raced at Esperance before but his metro/provincial form at Pinjarra and Belmont suggests he has the class to figure.

Recommended Bet: High, 2 Units on Lacie Ace ($3.50 estimated).

Horse

Role

Comment

Lacie Ace

Selection

Knocking on the door; loves this track.

Biondo

Danger

Dropping back from much harder Belmont grade.

Framed Market: Lacie Ace $3.20, Biondo $4.80, Mistress Of Excess $6.00, Keep A Knockin' $8.00, Others $12.00+

Race 4: STAR TRANSPORT HANDICAP (1600m)

West Coast Warrior is a track specialist. He has 8 starts here for 3 wins and 4 seconds—that is elite level consistency for this grade. His second-up record is excellent, and while he was beaten 8 lengths last start, that was a total "forget" run after being caught wide. Expect a massive bounce back. Razmas is the danger; he’s a last-start winner over 1400m and while the mile is the query, his current confidence is high.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet, 3 Units on West Coast Warrior ($4.00 estimated).

Horse

Role

Comment

West Coast Warrior

Selection

Track king; ignore the last run, he’s primed for this.

Razmas

Danger

In career-best form and maps to lead or sit prominent.

Framed Market: West Coast Warrior $3.50, Razmas $4.50, Alotta Fighting $6.00, Venturo $7.50, Others $10.00+

Race 5: ELJAYS BAR & RESTAURANT HANDICAP (1200m)

Midnight Rush was impressive winning here two starts back and backed it up with a strong second over 1400m. Dropping back to 1200m shouldn't be an issue given he has a win at the distance previously. He’s well-weighted after the claim. Dothraki is the veteran of the field but is flying since arriving in WA.

Race 1: Country Comfort Maiden (1200m)

A field of three-year-olds where trial form is the only compass for many. A Summer Fling (5) looks the clear standout here. She has a high-quality "fifty percenter" profile from her limited starts and trials, showing dominant speed to win a Lark Hill trial by over a length on December 1st before a gritty second at Ascot. She carries the Parnham/Pearce polish and draws perfectly in gate 3. The main danger is My Danny Boy (2), who comes out of a solid trial behind Pariah's Thanks and gets the services of Luke Campbell.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - A Summer Fling ($2.40)

Selection

Role

Comment

A Summer Fling

Top Pick

Metro-placed and dominant trial winner. He led and was only nailed on the line two starts back over this track and distance. Last start at Ascot he was a bit disappointing as a favorite, but back to provincial grade and with Holly Nottle's claim, he is incredibly well-weighted. Viva Marconi (1) is the saver; he’s consistent and finally draws a gate that doesn't require a GPS to find the rail.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) - Bannered ($3.00)

Selection

Role

Comment

Bannered

Top Pick

Significant weight advantage after the claim. She is a model of consistency with three consecutive seconds, including two over the Pinjarra 1300m. She steps up slightly in trip here, but her ability to sit on the speed and fight makes her the most reliable commodity in a race full of question marks. Spangledstar (7) is the danger; she made up a massive amount of ground last start and Chris Parnham sticking with the ride is a huge lead.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) - Xelcimus ($2.80)

Selection

Role

Comment

Xelcimus

Top Pick

Knocking on the door with three narrow 2nd-place finishes.

Spangledstar

Danger

Eye-catching run last start. Back to 1300m and with a more conservative steer, her class should shine through. She’s a prolific winner (6 wins from 25) and is the highest-rated mare in the race. Triple Jay (1) is the class runner but has to lug 59.5kg and is first-up. He’s a winner fresh, but the weight gives the mare the edge.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) - Angel Undercover ($3.50)

Selection

Role

Comment

Angel Undercover

Top Pick

Class runner who finds a winnable race at this trip.

Triple Jay

Danger

Group-performed gelding. She’s rock-hard fit. Authorative (1) is the main threat; he was excellent when second at Bunbury two starts back and gets the 2kg claim for Brayden Gaerth, making him the best-weighted horse in the race.

Recommended Bet: A Bet (1 Unit) - Smart Shadow ($5.50)

Selection

Role

Comment

Smart Shadow

Top Pick

Honest mare who will be in the finish again.

Authorative

Danger

Best weighted horse in the race after the claim.

Framed Market: Smart Shadow $5.00; Authorative $5.50; Tousled Crown $6.50; Ginger And Tonic $7.00; Others $10+.

Race 6: The Jack Haines 60th Birthday Special (1600m)

Extreme Love (4) is primed for this. She’s a "fifty percenter" this prep and was arguably the run of the race when third at Ascot last start, only beaten 0.9L. She gets a significant weight drop here (carrying 54.5kg) compared to the top weights. Our Nemesis (1) is the obvious danger; he is in career-best form with two wins and two seconds from his last four starts, but he has to carry 61kg, which is a big ask over the Pinjarra mile.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) - Extreme Love ($3.20)

Selection

Role

Comment

Extreme Love

Top Pick

Massive weight advantage over the main rival.

Race 1: TABtouch Have You Got The Touch Maiden (1600m)

This is a classic staying maiden where Sea Of Galilee looks the obvious standout. A 4yo gelding by Dundeel, he produced a tenacious run to hold 2nd last start over this course and distance. He carries 58kg and possesses a distinct fitness edge over his rivals. The primary danger is Arafisio, who caught the eye storming home for 3rd over 1600m here recently and holds a competitive 31% placement rate.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) on Sea Of Galilee at $2.50 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Sea Of Galilee

Top Pick

Peaking at the right time; track and distance specialist.

Arafisio

Danger

Massive late sectionals last start; handles the mile well.

Race 2: Statewide Horse Transport Maiden (1240m)

Valid Point has been knocking on the door and represents the clear class advantage in this field. As a "Fifty Percenter" with 1 placing in 2 starts, he gave a great sight to finish 3rd over this course and distance two starts back. Despite the wide gate (14), his early speed should allow for a prominent position. Nailed'em is the obvious threat following a dominant 4.5L trial win at this track on December 12th.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) on Valid Point at $4.00 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Valid Point

Top Pick

Significant class drop and strong Albany form 2nd-up.

Nailed'em

Danger

Translated strong trial form into a solid prep; distance suits.

Race 3: Wellington And Reeves Sales Handicap (1940m)

Pure Chino is the one they have to beat over this staying trip. She is a model of consistency and was a determined winner two starts back over 1600m at this track. While she carries a top weight of 63kg, the class advantage is significant. Beautiful Baroque is the main danger; she put in a "huge effort" to fly home for 2nd last start and is a proven 2nd-up winner.

Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units) on Pure Chino at $3.20 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Pure Chino

Top Pick

Consistent performer and proven winner at this track.

Beautiful Baroque

Danger

Relishes the distance and historically improves 2nd-up.

Race 4: Wellington And Reeves Commercial Handicap (1500m)

Astonisher is a prototypical "Fifty Percenter" at this track, placing in 2 of her 4 Albany starts. She comes off a gritty win and a subsequent 2nd-place finish against similar company over this distance. Bagger Prince is the saver, having broken through for a soft win last start over 1600m.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) on Astonisher at $4.50 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Astonisher

Top Pick

Consistent 1500m performer; rarely runs a bad race here.

Bagger Prince

Danger

Won with authority last time; confidence is high.

Race 5: Wellington And Reeves Residential Handicap (1000m)

Secret Stones represents elite consistency in this high-speed scamper, boasting 17 placings from 31 starts (54.8%). He has been "thereabouts" in his recent track performances and maps for a strong run from the gate. Brave Apache is the main threat, coming off a close 2nd at Ascot and holding a history of performing well at the Albany 1000m.

Recommended Bet: A Bet (1 Unit) on Secret Stones at $5.50 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Secret Stones

Top Pick

Consistent veteran; maps for a strong run from the gate.

Brave Apache

Danger

Proven track and distance record; peak fitness reached.

Race 6: Wellington And Reeves Rural Handicap (1240m)

Henry The Aviator is arguably the class horse of the meeting. With a massive 22 placements from 37 starts (59%), he is a local track specialist. Although slightly outclassed in a higher rating race last start, dropping back to this grade is a major advantage. Village Girl is the danger after winning a similar race here on December 12th.

Recommended Bet: High (2 Units) on Henry The Aviator at $3.80 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Henry The Aviator

Top Pick

Class dropper with a massive track record.

Village Girl

Danger

Last-start winner who holds form well 2nd-up.

Race 7: Nutrien Ag Solutions Handicap (1240m)

We finish the day with Magicash, a consistent mare who has placed in 5 of her 12 starts (41%). She put in a strong performance to finish 2nd here recently after being momentarily held up. El Foxie is the primary danger, coming off a gritty win over 1232m and proving difficult to catch when on pace.

Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units) on Magicash at $3.50 (Est).

Selection

Role

Comment

Magicash

Top Pick

Unlucky last start; looks a top chance in the closer.

El Foxie

Danger

Tough on-pace runner; hard to catch once balanced.
