This year it could all change as Dark Target and Megatic appear real standouts. Lets hope they turn on a real cracker race.

HISTORY

Interestingly in the last 7 years the shortest priced winner started at $7 so its been a curse race for favorites. Also barriers appear not to be a problem with several winners coming from wide in 8,9,10,11 which is a bit unusual for a 1200m race.

The race was formerly known as the WATC Stakes or WATC Plate until 1999 when it was renamed to honour the contribution to racing of Mr Peters who is still one of the biggest owners in WA and can be regularly seen at the track.

The past history includes several champions of WA Racing including Northerly, Jacks or Better and Heron Bridge amongst others.

An honour roll of winners features the cream of WA sprint/middle distance performers like - Belle Bizarre, Ellicorsam, Early Express, Willoughby, Bradson, Jacks Or Btter in recent times stretching back to Asian Beau, Burgess Queen, Detonator who now has races named after them and of course the wonder horse Aquanita in 1960.

In recent times it has been taken out by mares - No Questions or Grasspatch Girl maybe suited this year?? Can Charlie Beau return to top form?? or will Idyllic Prince prove dominant once again??

No real standout filly in this race - Jestatune probably would have started a favorite if Fred had kept it here.

Moisture and Nurse Norma look the best chances this year for mine.

Bold Empire was an eye catcher in the Placid Arc and is sure to have admirers.

Noms are in and a really interesting race with a return clash from the last Belmont meeting of many horses - Mr Sandgroper naturally enough gets the worst of it at the weights.

Can Keyton Grace return to her best at 1800m and with Peter Knuckey back in the saddle??

Patrick Carbery is looking for his 3rd win a row in this race and is likely to be on an outsider in Prince of Vasac - could it cause the surprise?
