heard someone on 1206 the other day (i've heard him on there before) talking about how well (fairly to all runners) the track played last Sat. Actually i think he said "it has never played better", then Wes CAmeron said "you had to be near the inside to be competitive", to which this guy agreed with.
If this is the case, how in god's name could the track have been playing fairly??????????????????????????????????????
now i can't really recall whether it did or didn't play fairly but this seemed to be a very contradictory statement. Surely if it were "fair" it would suit on-pacers, backmarkers, inside/outside/whatever.

this guy also sounded like he wasn't happy with the efforts of the other 15 jockeys in the railway stakes to not 'take on' the leader and eventual winner. what does he expect them to do? crucify their own horse's chances for the sake of not letting the leader get away with it? Just to benefit another runner? This fella might have been an ex-jockey for all i know but i'm sure if someone served it up to the leader they wouldn't have figured in the finish and would've looked like an amateur. Unfortunately once the gates open, not everything is achievable nor is it within your control.

He also has been drumming up the interstate and overseas jockeys heaps of late, I heard him mention that they picked up some of them in Limousines and have shown them the red carpet.

As a "promoter" of the sport, he has only served to paint the picture that the local horses, trainers and jockeys are sub-standard to the visitors and that the visitors are most worthy of throwing the $$$ at. This couldn't possibly be a balanced equation- it must cost massive dollars to get all these guys here, only to reduce stakemoney all year to the rank and file owners and trainers who put everything into the sport, in order to pay for these "spectacles".

Would this jockeys series be a worthy investment of these peoples hard-earned money? I can't see how this event could possibly return the expenditure that it took to put on.

What happens once they leave town and the crowds dwindle and the usual suspects are battling it out again for reduced prizemoney (because they upped the big race purses for the interstaters to take away) ?????????????? I'll tell you what happens- this guy gets back on the radio and makes out like the locals are worth talking about again. A bit difficult to believe him I would have thought.

While I'm at it, i saw 2 blokes on Perth Racing website giving their opinions on who they thought were the horses to follow on the following day at Ascot. One of them (sounded a lot like the aforementioned fella) seemed hell-bent on dismissing his on-screen counterpart's opinions. Surely as it's only opinion, he should just let this bespectacled young guy have his say????? i would've thought so anyway.

Was fairly unconvincing stuff in my opinion.

Sunday, 14 November 2010: (from AAP)

Perth stewards have lifted the bleeding ban on crack performer Famous Roman, enabling him to continue with his summer carnival campaign.

The stewards re- considered the ban placed on Famous Roman after he won on November 6 at Ascot.

He was banned under the rule that states an attack of bleeding shall be the appearance of blood at both nostrils, irrespective of quantity, unless in the opinion of the stewards such bleeding was caused by external trauma.

Fresh evidence presented by the connections of Famous Rpman that included results of a Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) carried out on the horse on November 11 by veterinarians.

A BAL involves the washing out of cellular material from a horse's lungs to examine for signs of Exercised Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage (EIPH).

The results of this test revealed no evidence of any recent or prior haemorrhage.

In light of this fresh evidence, the stewards directed that Famous Roman be sent to Murdoch where he underwent a complete examination in order to determine the origin of the nasal bleeding.

This examination included an endoscopy and x-rays of the horse's head and sino-nasal region.

The x-rays revealed no abnormalities but the endoscopy of the left nasal cavity revealed evidence of mucosal abrasions with associated inflammation.

Examination of the right nasal cavity revealed an area of abrasions similar to those in the left nasal cavity.

All other areas of the airways were found to be within normal limits.

The report further noted that the nasal mucosa appeared to be particularly fragile and bled easily and concluded it would seem plausible under these circumstances that the blood could have originated from the nasal mucosa during exercise.

Dr Judith Medd, RWWA Veterinarian, advised the stewards that in light of the results of the BAL and further testing conducted at Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital it was not possible to conclusively determine the origin of the nasal bleeding experienced by Famous Roman on November 6 and that scientific testing had revealed a degree of probability that the bleeding may not have originated from the horse's lungs.

Under these circumstances, stewards could not rule out that the bleeding was caused by external trauma and as such lifted the ban on Famous Roman immediately.
